YouTube improving Content ID to let creators earn while a claim is disputed!

Currently when a Content ID claim is made on a monetized video, the uploader's monetizetion is disabled for that video and the claimant can monetize and earn from the claimed video even while a dispute is in process.

Even if the creator wins the dispute, the 3rd party claimant gets to keep those earnings.

Under YouTube's new system earnings will be held until the dispute is resolved. Depending on how the dispute is settled the earnings will go either to the creator or the 3rd party claimant.

This new system should be rolled out in the coming months (it's not available yet)

And there is accountability for claimants:

Making sure our Content ID tools are being used properly is deeply important to us, so we’ve built a dedicated team to monitor this. Using a combination of algorithms and manual review, this team has resolved millions of invalid claims in the last year alone, and acted on millions more before they impacted creators. The team also restricts feature access and even terminates a partner’s access to Content ID tools if we find they are repeatedly abusing these tools.

How to dispute a Content ID claim on your video:

YouTube shorthand URLs now based on new-style custom URLs

If your new-style /c/ custom URL is different than your channel's old /user/ custom URL, make sure the old shorthand  vanity URL does not redirect to the wrong channel!

If your YouTube channel has a new-style custom URL like
     www.youtube.com/c/PeggyKTC

You can now reach your channel using the shorter version:
       www.youtube.com/PeggyKTC  (no /c/)

But if your channel also has a /user/ URL that is different than the /c/ URL, the old shorthand vanity URL based on that /user/ URL may now land you on a different channel.

Here is how that can happen, using a real-life example of two channels:

Old-style custom URL:  www.youtube.com/user/PeggyKTC New-style custom URL: NONE

Old-style custom URL: www.youtube.com/user/peggykyt New-style custom URL: www.youtube.com/c/PeggyKTC
(because it is connected to plus.google.com/+PeggyKTC)

The shorthand URL www.youtube.com/PeggyKTC
  used to direct to www.youtube.com/user/PeggyKTC

Now the shorthand URL www.youtube.com/PeggyKTC    directs to www.youtube.com/c/PeggyKTC
  (which is also www.youtube.com/user/peggykyt)

The old shorthand URLs will still direct to the same channel if no channel has set the equivalent /c/ custom URL

The shorthand URL www.youtube.com/peggykyt
    still directs to www.youtube.com/user/peggykyt
That is presumably because there is currently no channel using www.youtube.com/c/peggykyt

Complicated? yes!
So check your channel URLs today!
