There are rules in landscape photography. One of them involves the Golden Hour. Generally speaking, that’s about an hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset, when the light is warm and the shadows are dramatic. At the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, that all changes.

Elk rut in autumn can is exciting, sometimes too exciting.

Smoke from the wildfires in the Pacific Northwest hangs over the Colorado Rockies. Taken from Mt. Evans, just outside Denver, the haze in this photo is wildfire smoke lit by a setting moon, and stars.

First experience with mirrorless cameras, specifically Olympus OM-D E-M5-II. I'm optimistic.

Sometimes the weather just doesn't seem to cooperate, especially when it's 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning, cold, dark, and raining outside. But the world sometimes presents real gems under these circumstances. This was the case here, when the sun broke through the clouds, presenting this view in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Late September in Colorado is aspen season. It's mostly yellows with splashes of red and orange. But there's quite a range of yellow.

This is an overcast mountain side from Rocky Mountain National Park, not too far from Sprague Lake and Bear Lake.

As a first venture into astrophotography, this was made in Rocky Mountain National Park, in Moraine Park. There were a few clouds reflecting the lights of Denver, but the stars of the Milky Way show through.

The ridge in the foreground is a moraine left from when glaciers receded at the end of the last ice age. Longs Peak summit can be seen about 1/3 of the way in from the left edge, just over the moraine.

August in Colorado's San Luis Valley is the flower season, it seems. These prairie sunflowers are in full bloom, standing out against the sunrise colors. This day turned into a rainy day. "Red sky in morning, sailor's warning..."
