Pre-visualisation vs Experimentation

A reader of my newsletter emailed me to ask me whether the majority of my shots were planned beforehand or were made through playing around and experimenting.

Rather than sending a lengthy email reply I decided to write a blog post covering this exact subject so hopefully more people can read it and hopefully find some interesting information in here.

Let me know what you think!

How does a free travel photography workshop sound?

Are you aged between 18-25?

Do you have a passion for photography, travel and a love of adventure?

Today is the day that I launch my 2015 travel photography scholarship. I will be offering a young photographer the opportunity to join me on my 2015 Rural Romania workshop free of charge! (This is worth over £2000/$3000)

If this sounds like it is up your street then please check out the dedicated scholarship page:

p.s no prior travel or travel photography experience is necessary. All I am looking for is a desire to learn, to work hard and to improve.

I was looking through my images for some new content I am uploading onto the new website and I came across this image. Not sure how it slipped by the first time but I love the ladies cheeky smile through her sari.

Another image of Vassile, the last man still making shepherds clothing by hand in the areas around Sibiu. After being featured in national news, he apparently is a bit of a celebrity.

There are still places on my 2015 Romania tour: http://jacobjamesphotography.co.uk/rural-romania-tour/

Sunrise over Erg Chebbi, Merzouga, Morocco

Here is an image I came across whilst searching back through my archives. Erg Chebbi dunes are famous for their rose gold coloured sand. Located on the very edge of the Sahara, they were once the route into the prosperous kingdom of Sijilmassa for the caravan's that traded across N.Africa
