These survivors of sex trafficking in the Dominican Republic wave goodbye to NFL families following the “Day of Joy” hosted by the players. They taught the kids to throw a football, play basketball and spent a lot of time laughing together. Joy and encouragement were felt by all, and the healing journey continues for these brave children. Photo credit: The CNN Freedom Project.

Over the course of eight days, IJM teams worked with local authorities and partners to free 88 people in India from bonded labor slavery and sex trafficking. One freed family had lived in slavery for more than ten years. Today, these children, women and men are beginning new lives in freedom. With traffickers, pimps and slave owners now in custody, thousands more are safe from ever being abused. http://news.ijm.org/8-days-8-operations-88-rescued/

With the help of IJM lawyers, two strong sentences were delivered in cases of child rape in Bolivia. In the case of an 8-year-old boy who was raped by a neighbor, his neighbor was sentenced to 23 years in prison. In a separate case, the stepfather of a 9-year-old girl named Karina* has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for her rape.

After Karina’s stepfather was declared guilty, her aunt turned to IJM staff with tears in her eyes and said: “I have waited four years to see if justice existed.” Our team continues to walk with both children to support their personal healing journey.

Breaking News: Over the weekend, two girls were rescued from being sexually abused live on webcam in the Philippines.

IJM helped local authorities rescue a 14- and 15-year old. Two suspects were arrested for allegedly live-streaming sexual abuse of children to foreigners who paid them to watch the abuse, called cybersex trafficking. Three more children, including an 8-year-old girl, were found and removed from the home to determine whether they too were victimized.

The children are now safe at a shelter, and IJM will continue to support them.
