IIT Madras demonstrated the balloon transmitter as part of the DISANET Emergency Communication System for post – disaster relief communication. Koji Sugiyama, Acting Consul General of Japan at Chennai, inaugurated the demonstration of the communication system, with the balloon-mounted transmitter, on 11th of July at IIT Madras premises.

DISANET aims at establishing infrastructure for continuous data collection on earthquake and weather with global information network by applying it to India and Japan as example cases and to develop technical bases for rescue and support for restoration and for disaster recovery support. Directors and Faculty of the IITs as well as delegates from the University of Tokyo and Keio University participated in describing the significance of DISANET, the nature of the research undertaken and the actual working demonstration of the system.

Prof. David Koilpillai, Prof. Devendra Jalihal and team from IIT Madras has designed a rapidly deployable, independent, low cost, multi-way communication system to enable relief workers to communicate with the relief managers on voice, images and videos

Prof. V. G. Idichandy, Professor Emeritus, Department of Ocean Engineering and Prof. Kurian V. John (a former M.Tech. student of Civil Engineering and doctoral student of Ocean Engineering) has won a ‘Silver Medal’ for their Wave Force Totaller, a sensor developed with University Teknologi Petronas, Malaysia that was showcased at the 25th International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX ’14) held in Kaula Lampur, Malaysia from 8th to 10th May, 2014.

IIT Madras and Technip in India sign MoU!

Technip in India and Indian Institute of Technology Madras signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a broad partnership in various areas, including research collaborations with the Ocean, Civil and Metallurgical & Materials Engineering departments; creation of a postgraduate program with a focus on generic engineering; lectures by faculty and industry practitioners; continuing PG education for technical professionals; placement and internships for IITM graduates and students; and various sponsorship opportunities in the context of research enhancement and corporate social responsibility. The MoU was signed on 19th June-2014 at IIT Madras.

Present in 48 countries with 40,000 employees, Technip is a world leader in Project Management, Engineering and Construction for the "Energy" industry with more than 50 years of know-how and experience on land and at sea.

The MOU was signed in the presence of Mr. Philippe Barril, President & COO, Technip. The signatories were Prof. Nagarajan (Dean, International & Alumni Relations) on behalf of IIT Madras and Mr. Samik Mukherjee, Country Head & MD on behalf of Technip in India. 

Mr. K. Shanker, Director Onshore Business and Mr. D.Manohar Devadoss, Sr. VP Operations were on hand as witnesses from Technip in India. Prof. Harikumar and Prof. Anantha Subramanian represented IIT Madras as witnesses. Mr.R Jayasanakaran, COO, Chennai Center participated in the function.

IIT Madras signs an MoU with BEML Ltd!

IIT Madras and BEML Ltd signed an MoU today at the campus. The MoU was initiated for joint research work of interest to BEML in design, testing and manufacturing.

BEML Ltd (formerly Bharat Earth Movers Ltd) is an Indian Public Sector Undertaking, with headquarters in Bangalore. It manufactures a variety of heavy equipment, such as that used for earth moving, transport and mining. BEML Limited is a ‘Miniratna-Category-1' company. 

The MoU was signed by Prof. Krishnan Balasubramanian (Dean, IC&SR) on behalf of IIT Madras and Mr.Deepak Kumar Hota, Director (Human Resources) on behalf of BEML Ltd.

Introduction
Founded in 1959 with technical and financial assistance from the government of West Germany, it is the third among the IIT's established in India. 

A residential Institution , IIT Madras is the home to nearly 460 faculty , 6000 students and 1250 administrative personal. It has grown in stature in the last 50 years of its time and today it stands in the top 5 of the IIT's in India.

Much of the campus is a protected forest, carved out of the Guindy National Park, home to a large varieties of wildlife. Monkey's are as common here as your friends.

IIT Madras has the best facilities of sports in any field that you might want . With its emphasis on all round development , it has sufficient infrastructure for every sport imaginable that is played in India.
