IITM and GE signed an agreement on campus this morning to build 'Industrial Internet Centre of Excellence' aims to develop power intensive applications with first focus on Digital Twin of Aluminium Smelter. The Industrial Internet Centre of Excellence marks a milestone global collaboration by GE with IITM to drive digital industrial transformation that can bring quantum leaps in productivity, efficiency and reliability to the industrial sector.

Indian Innovation, Global Aspiration!

InnoNano Research (INR), a clean water company incubated at IIT Madras & co-founded by Prof. Pradeep, is set out to develop its global footprint by finalizing $18 million investment plan with a US firm NanoHoldings(NH) an energy and water investment specialist firm.

The company made the announcement in a special function held on 10th May in the presence of many dignitaries and government officials from the Department of Science & Technology, Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthy, Director, IIT Madras announced the finalizing of agreement with NanoHoldings (NH), energy and water investment specialist firm, to set-up a global water technology company with an investment plan of USD 18 Million. With an aim to make India an exporter of water technologies, and to support the Make in India efforts of the government, the company plans to setup a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, a modern research laboratory and technology delivery offices across North America, Asia and Africa.

Distinguished chair named after Prof. C.R. Muthukrishnan, former deputy director IITM. (3rd chair of its kind with an endowment of Rs. 10 crore)

IIT Madras alumnus and co-Founder of Infosys, Kris Gopalakrishnan named the 3rd Distinguished Chair in Computational Brain Research after retired Professor from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Prof. C.R. Muthukrishnan.

He had earlier set up 3 Chairs in computational brain research at IIT Madras, with an endowment of Rs. 10 crores each. The three Chairs created at IITM focus on computing aspects--architecture & model of the brain - including the memory/ processor relationship and neuromorphic computing.

Prof. Muthukrishnan, in his acceptance speech, mentioned that he was honoured at the naming, and that "while many of my students went on to become very successful entrepreneurs, the success of Infosys, co-founded by Kris, is a phenomenon unmatched before or since". Prof Muthukrishnan is currently Advisor, Rajalakshmi Engineering College. He has served as Consulting Advisor, TCS, and was in the Tamil Nadu IT Task Force 1998-2001. He has also served as President of the Computer society of India 2000-2002, as Indo-French Scientific Council Member in 2000-2005, and as Director on the Boards of Tidel Park and Indian Bank. He is a Senior Member of ACM, IEEE and ISTE, and Fellow of CSI. He was Chief Editor of Computer Science & Informatics. He is a B.Tech. (Electrical) President of India Gold medalist from IIT Madras, and has earned M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees from IIT Kanpur. He was a faculty member at IIT Madras from 1975 - 2003. He has served as Dean of Academic Courses, and as Deputy Director and Director-in-Charge at IIT Madras.

Institute Chair announced in the Department of Mechanical Engineering by our alumnus!

IIT Madras, launched an “Institute Chair” in the institute’s Department of Mechanical Engineering. The Chair is established in the name of Venkataratnam Balaraman. Balaraman, who is also the Chairman of Computer Age Management Services (CAMS), is a manager par excellence with a long and distinguished career as MD of Pond’s India Limited and thereafter as Director of Hindustan Unilever Limited. The Chair is endowed by an ‘81 alumnus of IIT Madras, in recognition of the signature contributions made by both IITM and by Balaraman to society.
