I think I would chose Yahoo! It is a brand that in my opinion hasn’t really defined itself yet. The logo re-design it had done in 2013 didn’t really change much. If I were to re-brand it, I would go beyond a new design and would attempt to distill the brand’s true identity. I would try to clearly position the brand and extract its voice and establish its meaningfulness through design and communication. I believe Yahoo! needs to re-position itself in order to keep up with the times and still be relevant to a broader audience.

Shanghai Project Announces Qidian Finalists — Shanghai, China
As an independent program of the Shanghai Project, Qidian is dedicated to featuring young undiscovered talents across China. For its first edition, we collaborated with 89plus, a long-term international research project co-founded by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Simon Castets. Investigating the generation of innovators born in or after 1989, Qidian aims to bring together creative individuals of the jiulinghou generation from China and abroad, providing a unique opportunity to present and share thought-provoking ideas.

Golden Pin Design Award announces 2016 Entry Results — Taipei, Taiwan
The 2016 edition of the Golden Pin Design Award has received a record 3,005 entries from 13 countries and regions, with the most products and projects coming from China, followed closely by Taiwan. The Taiwan-based Golden Pin Design Award repositioned itself in early 2014 to celebrate product, packaging, spatial, and visual communication design works already on the market that were created for and within huaren communities. Since then, the three-decades-old award has increased its entries and participating countries and regions, hitting new records each year, and has expanded the Golden Pin Award Group to include the Golden Pin Concept Design Award, and the Young Pin Design Award. 2016 Design Mark for recipients will be announced in October this year, and the Best of Golden Pin Design Award trophy winners in an award ceremony in Taipei in early December.

Perhaps never before in history has there been such a preoccupation with identity. Everyone wants to stand out from the crowd. And in this frantic scramble to seize what Andy Warhol famously described as everybody’s “fifteen minutes of fame”, we very often become reduced to ciphers by the very popularity of the trends we are following to achieve this, be it the fashions we favour, the tattoos and piercings with which we decorate our bodies, the never-to-be-seen-again selfies we endlessly snap on our iPhones, or the “likes” we strive so hard to accumulate via Facebook and Twitter.
