The best Sunday Buffet in the USA. Even a few ghosts in the long walk way to the beach to liven things up a bit.

Our 2014 annual collector’s ornament has arrived! This year’s ornament, the 22nd in the series, represents the theme “Building Seaside Memories” and depicts The Del as a sandcastle with the warm colors of a Coronado sunset. It is sculpted in molded glass and comes in a beautiful padded gift box. Get yours in The Signature Shop or Est. 1888 store, or online. http://ow.ly/DfmwA

A while ago I traveled from Mexico to San Diego for a business trip, my wife took care of booking the hotel and flights. At first I was a little pissed off at her when I saw the bill for the hotel, but it was worth every dollar. Hotel del Coronado made that stressful business trip feel like vacations, Excellent service, amazing staff, great food and drinks. I rarely write reviews, but this place wwas just awesome. They deserve 6 stars instead of 5. 100% recommended.

As a busy Realtor returning from a convention, there are many emails for me to send right now. It is so important to me that I thank the staff of the Hotel del Coronado for making this trip an incredible experience for my daughter and I. Every person we came in contact to was so intent on doing the best they could to make our stay enjoyable, I was impressed. Of special mention; Stingray Steve giving us surfing lessons, Brent at Valet, Wendy at the pool and Melanie at the Sun deck went above and beyond. These people made the expense of the hotel so worth while. It is not just the room, it's the stay. The hotel has well preserved classic architecture that was amazing. Also consider the location of the hotel. It's on a great beach with spectacular sunsets and the area around the hotel is very nice. The locals were very relaxed and friendly. We enjoyed watching them from side walk cafe's how they patted and talked to each other dogs. I will look for a reason to come back to San Diego and my stay will be at the Hotel Del Coronado. We stayed in room 3474 and didn't want to leave when the sun was setting right in front of us. Thank you, Hotel del! Five stars + for you! Diane

We stayed at the Del Jan. 4 - Jan. 11 and our experience was not so great. First, the good: the spa was amazing. I had an excellent facial and mani/pedi and would do that part again. The food in the restaurant was good and the wait staff in the restaurant was perfect. The bad: Our housekeeping service was very poor. The first day we checked in we had no coffee and had to call down and request some pods (they have Keurigs in each room). The next couple of days we left money and a note asking for extra regular coffee. The first day they left two pods, the second day only one. They did not replenish our shampoo or other toiletries, nor did they leave toilet paper -- we had to call down for both. Although I hung our towels every day, on the third day, inexplicably, they took one of the towels and did not replace it. Fortunately, there was a cart down the hall and I was able to nab a towel. Finally, on day four, I went to the concierge and asked if he could put a note to have items in our room replenished and he was barely civil. It made no sense, I was very nice about it all and he just gave me this pinched-faced look, like I was being unreasonable for trying to discuss it with him. This is supposedly a high-end resort, yet I had to spend part of every single day that I was there foraging for basics like toilet paper, towels and shampoo (and no, it did not improve after I spoke with the concierge, one of our towels once again disappeared and one day we again had no coffee). We were there as part of a large conference and quite a few others said they had the same issues. The restaurant: the food was good, as I mentioned, but the hostesses were distant to the point almost of rudeness. One day I stood there for several minutes as the hostess -- just a foot or two away -- completely ignored me and stared off into space. I finally said, "Um, excuse me?" and she turned and looked at me and said, "Can I help you?" Yes, you can seat me. Thanks. Weird. And she was dressed in full winter gear: a wool coat, mittens and a scarf. Yes, it was chilly, but this is an indoor space and that was just overkill and looked ridiculous. Also, there were birds (sparrows) everywhere in the restaurant. If that's not a health code violation it should be. The valet service: While some in our party said they had to wait an hour or more for their vehicle, I found it to be prompt. However, the one day I went out and my car was parked in the pouring rain with the driver's door open, even though they weren't very busy and there was plenty of room under the overhang. The entire driver's side was soaked. I went over and closed the door while I hunted for someone to give me the keys -- the kiosk was empty, no idea why. Last, but not least: the elevator. I know that the old-fashioned, bellhop-operated elevator is considered charming, but I found it less so after dealing with it for a week. The second day we were there the operator on shift and the operator coming to relieve her got into an argument over what uniforms they were supposed to be wearing, told us who were waiting to be taken upstairs that we would just have to wait, both got on the elevator and took off. Normally, I would have just walked, but I was on the 5th floor and had a pulled hamstring so I was stuck. Even aside from that, having only one elevator is super slow and inefficient. I don't know that there's anything they can do about it, but I wouldn't stay in the main building again, for sure. Not that I'd stay here again at all, but if I lived nearby I would definitely use them as my salon/spa. I have no complaints about the room or facilities themselves. Yes, it's an older hotel, and the rooms are old-fashioned, that's okay. The weather was bad and the common areas were chilly. Not the hotel's fault. My issues were almost entirely service-related and that is.

Dear Kelly, Thank you for your review. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your dining experiences and treatments at Spa at The Del. When staying at our hotel, guests should expect the best service from the moment they walk through our doors. We sincerely apologize this was not the experience you had. We will be sharing your comments with our team to ensure this does not happen in the future. This place is great! The employees are nice, friendly, helpful, and kind. There is this one employee named Andrew the elevator operator and he is the nicest person in the world! One of the reasons we come here every year is to see his friendly smile. I think he should get a pay raise because he's always helpful, kind, and generous. And he's been there all of his life and he's in his 60s I'd say. Also the town it's self is a great place to shop, eat, look around, and have fun! We got to the Del and our room wasn't ready yet so they gave us a different room to relax in Intel our room was ready, it was so nice of them. I've never seen a hotel ever do that before so that goes to show that they really do care about customer satisfaction. I definitely think you should look in to booking a room here you won't regret it!

My boyfriend had week long meetings here for work. I came up and played while he worked. So this hotel is absolutely stunning on the outside and a treasure on the inside. Now it's no modern foo-foo hotel but the character and history of the hotel has been beautifully maintained. The service we had durning the cocktail hour and dinners were top notch. The employees were all Very polite and nice. The food has also been fantastic.

The Del Coronado is truly a beautiful hotel.Resturants are wonderful and they also have a delicious little ice cream shop. Ice cream nachos are our favorite! The beach area is always clean and beautiful. We go every year during Christmastime to ice skate and always have a wonderful experience.

I went to hotel del Coronado on the 20th during the del lights event and it was amazing. This hotel is a sight to see there's a ton of history there with tons of black and white picture of old celebrities and presidents on the lower levels along with some classy shops. Definitely a place to visit these holidays because the whole place is built to look like a palace and it looks even better with the Christmas lights
