HBO has forged an exclusive long-term licensing deal with Amazon's streaming service Prime Instant Video, making it the exclusive online-only subscription home for hundreds of hours of HBO programming including all episodes of classic series The Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire and Six Feet Under and movies and miniseries such as John Adams, Band of Brothers and Angels in America. The first wave of content will arrive on Amazon Prime on May 21.

Flash Gordon could be rocketing back to the big screen. Twentieth Century Fox has closed a deal to pick up the screen rights to the pulp comic-strip hero in a package that has John Davis producing and J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, the up-and-coming scribes who just worked on Star Trek 3, on board to write the script.

Party Anthem Night turned out to be the perfect Dancing With the Stars episode to attend liiiiiiive, as this is pretty much the flagship theme of the show (People Gone Wild) just as much as last week’s Disney motif. At the time, I’d regretted delaying my visit to Planet Mirrorballus because I’d missed out on the chance to party alongside my favorite classic animated characters. But that’s nonsense. William Hurt is dropping out of Midnight Rider, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.  The actor was starring as Greg Allman in the movie, which had been looking to gear up again after the on-set death of camera assistant Sarah Jones on Feb. 20 due to a train accident.

HBO has firmed up its comedy offerings for 2015. The premium cable network announced Monday that it has renewed half-hours Veep and Silicon Valley for a fourth and second season, respectively.  Rookie entry Silicon Valley launched April 6 following the season premiere of ratings juggernaut Game of Thrones. The latest Joss Whedon project to reach the big screen, indie drama In Your Eyes, was released simultaneously on all manner of small screens during its world premiere at the Tribecca Film Festival on Sunday night. The Avengers director's production company, Bellwether Pictures, announced that it was making the film available on its website via Vimeo for $5 immediately following the screening in New York.
