We love Hatteras Realty. We use it every year. We started coming to Avon about 8 or 9 years ago. Any problems we may have had are always worked out quickly for Us. We will continue to work with Hatteras Realty!

We rented through the Hatteras office. We were told that check-in was between 3 and 5. They checked us in at 5:00 p.m. and apologized for the wait. They gave us a $75 gift card to a local pizzeria to make up for the delay. Then they tell us we can go to the house but the cleaning crew is still there, but they won't be in our way (!!!!) Not only was it awkward trying to carry all our stuff into a house that was clearly NOT clean, but they did a rush job to get of there! The house was clearly not new or maintained, everything looked a lot nicer in the online pictures. The location of the house is apparently what we paid thousands of dollars for. We have never used this realty in the many visits we've made to OBX and we won't be using them again. People travel far and spend a lot of $$ to come here, there are several competitors we can rent from. Sorely disappointed in our rental experience this time.

The concession stand gentlemen need to educate themselves before letting idiotic things come out of their mouths and stick to selling snacks. Upset with the way they spoke to my family and I. Your patrons are not just vacationers, we have careers and we are educated. Some of us have even owned and operated Olympic sized swimming pools, took care of the water system, pumps, back washed, chemicals, dealt with pool patrons and all that comes with it. Stick to selling snacks or educate yourself and speak nicely to people...because they may know more than you.

We rented Tootle-Loo and paid $5200 for a house that was filthy, furniture that was known to be broken and ripped up, carpet that was grossly stained, dead bugs everywhere and the hall bath on the second floor literally had mold growing ALL over the ceiling and walls! The air conditioner was not large enough to cool the house so mid week and several calls to the property manager later, we received two window units for the top floor. As we were leaving, the painters came to paint Kilz over the mold (not fix the problem, just covering it up). Last word of warning, the property manager told us the cleaning staff was only obligated to "wipes things down", not clean, not disinfect, not get the squished bugs off the walls or even dust, just wipe things down. Therefore, I would strongly reccommend you bring disinfecting spray, clorox wipes and your rubber gloves. Be prepared to clean before you can start your vacation.

Stay at morning star this past week. The house was infested with ants in the dishwasher over all the dishes in the cabinets everywhere really. The kitchen is not well equipped like posted in the description of the house. The oven only had one rack one cookie sheet how do you cook for a family of 12 with only one oven rack. There's mold on windows and in bathrooms. The mattresses where the worst I ever slept on. On Thursday it rained a bit in the morning so we decided to do some shopping my 15 year old nephew decided to stay back. He later called us and said 2 men just let themselves in to fix a broken glass table my brother got on the phone told them to leave which they did. Later called hatteras to see why they said no one was scheduled to be in the house that day and if so someone would of notifed us and they would get back to us on why there where there which they never did. We understand maintenance need to be done while people are renting the homes but to show up without notice and help yourself in is not right. The only good thing about this house is how close to beach you are.

Beware when booking with this agency. Expensive lesson for me, hope it's not for you. Booked a house with them for the week of October 8th. Hurricane Mathew arrived on the 8th and Dare County closed access to the island until Thursday the 13th. Was in contact with them numerous times during that period requesting to change dates, get partial refund or whatever could be worked out. They would not do either. Finally got to spend 2 days in the house even though I paid for 7. If it was something that was a fault on my end I could completely understand and accept this. But when the property is not available for me to take possession of during the agreed upon time and not available until 5 days later. Why should I be punished? Here is a quote directly from their website. "After several years of weathering hurricanes and the associated refunds, our homeowners have asked us for hurricane relief, and we agree, it’s time to share the weather burden. We can no longer offer refunds in the event of a hurricane" Apparently they now feel that it is more appropriate to take money from the hard working people that rent from them and get to enjoy a vacation once or twice a year. Seems to me like a very misguided concept of who there customers really are. Having stayed with them in the past as well the other sad thing is that the people that work there are great to work with and they have some really nice properties. Too bad the management of this company has taken this stance. They have lost a repeat customer in me as I will never do business with them again. It's sad such nice people have to work for such a piece of $$$$ company

It amazes me how a business that's been around as long as Hatteras Realty simply cannot be prepared for peak season. 2 hours after check in time my family of 14 people cannot get to out house we rented because it's not clean yet. Several of my family members have driven 14+ hours just to sit at the rental office waiting for a place to unpack and relax. Here we sit with no house to go to with close to 100 other people that are forced to wait as well. Parents are tired, kids are hungry and the only option they offer is way overpriced microwaved hot dogs or pizza at their snack counter. Some people work hard for their vacation time and to be brushed off like you're not even their 47th priority is a slap in the face. If you plan on visiting the Outer Banks make sure you book a house with another realty company. Hatteras Realty in Avon will leave you disappointed.
