n the 2016 Presidential election we need to WIN - that is the bottom line. Let history be a lesson - another Socialist ran for President 5 times - Eugene V. Debs and was defeated. I agree that now we are in another era - but do all those who are idealists really believe that our country is going to elect a Socialist to the Presidency? The US is more conservative than ever and I emphatically say NO. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_V._Debs
George W. Bush's choices - Samuel Alito and John Roberts to the Supreme Court gave us the CITIZENS UNITED decision which brought the largest influx of MONEY into elections - The 1% have a better chance than ever to buy an election. On the other hand, President Obama chose two women - for the Supreme Court whose values reflect mine.
The next President might have an opportunity to choose at least 2 or maybe 3 nominees, which will affect our lives for years to come, More so than any other branch of government, the Supreme Court can undo years of Congressional legislation - just look at the attempts to eviscerate ACA and Roe vs. Wade year upon year - it is never-ending.
I personally consider myself a democratic socialist - when I was in my teens, I felt that there should be a "cap" on the amount of money my favorite band The Beatles were making, and strongly believed their enormous income should be given to programs to help those less fortunate. Anyone who knows me is aware that I am not a consumer and have deeply held convictions about equalizing wealth and opportunities.
