Here's a #googleplusupdate for all you photographers out there.
Improving RAW-to-JPEG conversion on Google+

We've supported full-size photo backups for almost a year now, and as a result many of you have been storing your RAW images on Google+. Of course: any time you view RAW files we convert them to JPEGs -- to optimize the file size, and keep the service fast.

Starting today, and thanks to +Nik Photography, our RAW-to-JPEG conversion is now significantly improved. RAW images from more than 70 different cameras will look better as a result (full list below), and we’re tuning additional models over time.

Try uploading your own RAW image, and let us know what you think! From there you can edit the JPEG copy as much as you'd like with our new editor (, and download the original RAW file whenever you want. #googleplusupdate

Merry Christmas to you too Google :)
THAT is terrific news. I shoot raw and still have to go through lightroom to make adjustments and conversions. I still have some questions : if I make manual adjustments in Google+, will ot use raw or jpeg data to make the improvements ? (when brightening dark areas for example). And also, if I keep the option to automatically resize to 2048px, does it still keep raw files ?
Cool! Any chance  Fujifilm cameras will be added in the near future?
Is this live now? I have some EOS M RAW files that still show up in G+ with a purple cast. Thanks!
This is great, but no Nikon D3/D3s support?  Really?
People are expecting them to support everything right out of the gate? They'll get there guys. Give them some time.
RAWs uploaded are resized if you have that option set in the G+ settings to reduce the size of uploaded photos to the "web-friendly" 2048x2048 max res.  And the ensuing JPEGs created when you use the Snapseed editing tools are noticeably compressed, so it's not really a solution I'd use yet for processing and converting RAWs.  I guess it's a start though.
Great news, but could you please get +Google+ photos (editing) to work on the Samsung chromebook, it's been weeks that it doesn't work.
Improving RAW-to-JPEG conversion on Google+??????????????

BUT, where is Pentax and Ricoh?

Pentax support in the future?
+1 For Fuji Film camera support.
You should have added support for Samsung NX cameras...
doesn't seem to want to upload my Canon 60D raw photos, or is it just really, really, reeeeeaallllly slow?
Since shooting in canon raw I have systematically converted to DNG. I'm now wishing that I had left the files in the original raw format. DNG please!!!
I know it's been a while, but any word on when the "Google+ Auto Backup" app will be able to import RAW files? I'm using OSX 10.9
when new RAW format from canon 7d mark ii will be supported? I see only purple photo after importing
it doesnt seem that all my EXIF data from my NEF files are making it to Google+. Things like GPS and lens data are missing. If I convert the NEF to a JPG, then Google+ sees the missing data just fine.
Ok. I tried this, you mentioned ".. download the original RAW file whenever you want." I can´t find any feature to get back my original RAW File. I only get a jpeg, downsized, when I use Download/Original Size. What do I make wrong?
The G+ Auto Backup Desktop Program does not upload any NEF-Files when I select the 2048px standard size. I guess since the Program itself does not convert these files from NEF to JPG first, they don't get uploaded, right?
