Make Phone Calls from Inside Google+ Hangouts
#googleplusupdate #hangouts

Starting today, you can now call a phone number from any Google+ hangout, announces +Vincent Paquet. This feature, originally launched in Hangouts with Extras, joins screensharing and Google Docs integration as graduates. Calls to the US and Canada are free, and international calling rates very low. Graduating another extra: making phone calls from inside Hangouts

In the past few months, we’ve graduated two widely-used features from Hangouts with extras to the main Hangouts experience: screensharing and Google Docs. Today, we’re excited to announce that we’re graduating a third and very popular feature -- the ability to call a phone number from Hangouts. Calls to the US and Canada are free, and international calling rates are super, super low (www.goo.gl/TWv2L)

To dial in someone:
- When you’re in a hangout, click on the “Invite” button and then on the “+telephone” link.
- Enter the number you want to dial, and hit “Add.” (Note: You can only call one number at a time. Dialing a second phone number will replace the existing call.)

As always, let us know what you think in the comments, or via the “Send feedback” button!

You can also make free calls from the Chat For Google Chrome extension. I Just discovered this yesterday.

Its really awesome!
Can we call in any country ?

Great new feature, I'll have to try it out!

Call someone using that G+ to POTS Service and say "Alah Akbar" or sumthing to have your G+ Account closed in no time ;) LOL

Nice loving the updates keep them coming!

I need to google+ checker with java format

This is cool, but does anyone else foresee Hangouts making prank calls with this? Wonder what number comes up for a Hangout on caller ID?

Very nice, and +Brian Swartzfager while you set up Google Voice you have to pick a real phone number that people can redial you on and appears on caller id just like a normal phone so it won't be anymore of a problem than a normal phone.

Is this function necessary once hangout has been used as the major communicative channel already? The only usefulness I can see is like using chat to summon the participants for hangout before the latter taking place. Too many things getting into the simplicity will make G+ more similar to Facebook I am afraid.

+Tony Tsu I could use this even though I don't do a lot of hang outs, there are times when I would like to invite some friends that don't use G+. Like your point though, a good concern to have.

+Tony Tsu I think it's meant more for being able to include someone in a hangout that does not have access to the internet but has a phone.

I wonder what will show up on the hangout screen for calls.

It seems like this might be an integration of google voice .

awesome. i saw it coming someday :)

One of the most exciting improvements I was waiting for! :D

That's a plus! And a second one for availability in Europe :)

Excellent! I can't wait to see what other neat ideas Google integrates.

Yawn. I am starting to get bored with +Google+ . I know I HAVE TO follow the right people, engage blah blah. But, my friends are not engaging. plain and simple. News and interesting topics are not the only things I care for. Lower the bar for the effort it takes the post and release some damn 'write' API.

I can get a buncha buddies together and do prank calls just like middle school!!

Would be nice if I could access my Google contacts (not just the Google+ contacts) and select a phone number from there, instead a manual input of a phone number.

It would also be nice to have a "Hangout phone number", where people with phones can dial in. This together with a scheduling function (using Google Calendar) could replace my confcall system.

Support for this feature on the mobile version of Messenger with access to my complete address book?

Does this feature work with on-air?
