There have been tons and tons of HiRISE images of the Curiosity landing region, and it has taken quite a lot of work for me to find, locate, and catalogue them. This post is a summary of what I've found; after five revisions and updates, it's now version 3.0 of the list.

RIP Ed Mitchell---the sixth man to walk on the Moon.

A hero, an explorer and a pioneer:

"He was a hero in the classical sense," Karlyn Mitchell, the astronaut's oldest daughter, said in statement. "Though he fulfilled his childhood dreams while still a young man, he managed to sustain an aura of excitement by evolving and reinventing himself. He never tired of encouraging others to strive and explore."

Edgar Mitchell, who 45 years ago became the sixth man to walk on the moon, died on Thursday (Feb. 4), the day before the anniversary of his lunar landing. He was 85.

A true national hero! Just another reason for America to show the world why only a select few of Americans walked on the moon. Keep the dream alive!

One small step for science...one giant leap for the universe!

Huge news, as science has---officially as of today---proven Einstein right, and opened up a whole new way of understanding the cosmos (like hearing, versus just watching):

http://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2016/02/when-two-black-holes-collide/462279/
By announcing the first detection of gravitational waves, scientists have vindicated Einstein and given humans a new way to look at the universe.

Buzz Aldrin says we need to go back to the Moon---in order to support our future on Mars!:

"Going back to the moon and planting boots on Mars don’t have to be mutually exclusive. I am convinced that the global community must develop a unified program that develops commerce, science and technology on the Moon. Moreover, that program is needed to support the prospect of permanence on Mars."

We agree! What do you think?

Welcome to the new space race.
Introduction
The Google Lunar X PRIZE is a $30 million competition for the first privately funded team to send a robot to the moon, travel 500 meters, and then transmit video, images and data back to the Earth; incentivizing space entrepreneurs to create a new era of affordable access to the Moon, and beyond.
