Making Material just got easier. The new #MaterialComponents site features a library of components and expanded documentation that let you build easily for Android, iOS, and the web using open-source code: material.io/components
The components are regularly updated by a team of engineers and designers to follow the latest #MaterialDesign guidelines, ensuring well-crafted implementations that meet development standards such as internationalization and accessibility support. Material Components make it easy to develop rich user experiences using Material Design, and you can pick and choose which components to add to your app or website—Material Design buttons, menus, cards, ripples, and dialogs to name just a few.
For the latest news or to contribute to the project, visit Material Components on GitHub: http://github.com/material-components

Last fall, Google Design sponsored the 2016 AGI Open in Seoul, South Korea. While in Seoul for the event, we had the chance to visit a few studios around the city — to better understand the culture of design in the South Korean capital and to meet designers where they work. Here you'll find visual highlights from our visits with Sulki & Min, Everyday Practice, Jin Dallae & Park Woohyuk, and Na Kim.

How has software shaped the evolution of design made in California?
"California: Designing Freedom" is a new exhibition at the Design Museum, exploring the Golden state’s distinctive approach to design and life. Design VP +Matias Duarte discussed Google's design philosophy and contributions with curator Justin McGuirk, revealing a few surprising insights: goo.gl/YT45uq
“Just like wood or steel or glass, software has certain properties—one of these properties is that it’s constantly evolving. It doesn’t require someone to go back to the store to buy a better one. It evolves in reaction to your interactions, or to advances in technology.”
— Matias Duarte, Google’s VP of Design

How do you foster a strong UX culture in a world where engineering reigns supreme? Google Design Manager Mike Buzzard shares his perspective in our latest Q&A: goo.gl/u3QwjU
“Google is an engineering-driven company, and I think it’s important that those roots remain. However, I do think Google can become more design oriented. Signals of that would be in the vocabulary engineers use when talking to designers about work, or even just a top-down, bottom-up sort of comfort in understanding how design influences the company’s products and culture. To me that influence should be visible from the outside. Things like the Google rebrand or Material Design, for example. It's a slow transition, but it’s clear that the company is definitely moving in this direction. The number of people working in UX at Google has multiplied over the last 5 years—that magnitude of growth is partly why we created a team dedicated to UX community and culture, to ensure the health and success of UX across all of Google."
