Introduction
Goodwill helps people with disabilities and other barriers to employment go to work by providing jobs, training and educational opportunities. Since 1902, Goodwill’s concept of building job skills, instead of giving handouts, has provided people of all ages and backgrounds a chance to succeed. Tacoma Goodwill opened in 1921 as the 19th Goodwill in the United States, offering its own job training and placement services. Goodwill is a unique, self-supporting 501(c)3 nonprofit that utilizes donations sold in its 25 stores across a 15-county service area to fund its programs. Goodwill is also a leader in online sales and relies on its Go2 Services, with property management and packaging and assembly operations, to provide additional funding.

More than 90 cents of every $1 earned at Tacoma Goodwill supports our mission. Last year alone we provided services to nearly 6,300 people. Goodwill placed more than 1,000 people in jobs – either at Goodwill or in the community. For ever 1,000 people placed in a job, there is a community benefit of $11 million. Many of our programs are funded through a third party but scholarships are available as a result of donations to the Goodwill Foundation.

Tacoma Goodwill has consistently received the highest endorsement from CARF – the National Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission – since 1973. Tacoma Goodwill operates in 15 counties in Western and Southcentral Washington, covering nearly the entire Olympic Peninsula (except Kitsap County), south to Longview, east to Yakima and Ellensburg, along with a portion of South King County.

Every year, we receive and fulfilled requests for thousands of items including stuffed animals, toys and books for a variety of organizations supporting kids, hundreds of blankets and clothing items for the homeless, backpacks for needy school children, utensils for homeless shelters, shopping vouchers for displaced flood victims and residents of the YWCA women’s shelter and hundreds more items such as towels, washcloths, bedding, and furniture to individuals and organizations in the communities we serve.
