Sexual Abuse Reported
Glendale Community College Main Campus, Fine Arts Building Courtyard
Thursday, October 17, 2013 at approximately 9:30 p.m.
The following on-campus incident was reported to the Glendale Community College Public Safety on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at approximately 9:30 p.m. by the victim.
The Maricopa County Community College District Department of Public Safety and the Glendale Police Department are investigating a reported sexual abuse incident that occurred on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at approximately 6:30 p.m., at the Fine Arts Courtyard on the GCC Campus.
The victim reported that she was sexually abused on the benches, east of the Fine Arts building. A male suspect approached the victim and displayed a folding knife, threatening her. He the reportedly fondled her before leaving.
The victim did not know the suspect. The suspect was described as a white male, with a thin build, 5’07” tall, balding, wearing a dark blue shirt and blue jeans. The subject was last seen headed in the direction of campus.

We are strongly urging the Campus Community to take prudent and necessary safety precautions, including:
• Avoid isolated areas-, alleys, parking lots, and offices after business hours.
• Walk with a group, especially at night. If you feel like you are being followed, move as fast as possible toward the nearest lighted and populated building.
• Call Public Safety at 623-845-3535, or 911 if it is an emergency.
• Maintain a safe distance from strangers, even if they just ask for directions.
• Be aware of your surroundings and travel in well-lit areas where you feel safe.
Call 911 in emergencies on and off campus. Report any suspicious activity on campus to the MCCCD Police by calling 623-845-3535.

As I pulled in to employee parking this morning I was met with a familiar, smiling face – one of our Public Safety officers. We fell into a deep discussion:
“So,” says I, “What steps is Public Safety taking today to protect our campus from chaos and mayhem?”
“Well,” says she, “We have placed holy relics all about the campus grounds and banished black cats.”
