Living Beautifully With Uncertainly & Change: 4 Week Group

Based on the book by Pema Chödrön

We live in difficult times with uncertainty.  Why shouldn’t we cling to familiar patterns and habits if they provide us some degree of certainty?  Because, as Pema Chodron teaches, that kind of fear-based clinging keeps us from the infinitely more satisfying experience of being completely alive.  The teachings presented in this course, known as the three commitments, which are based on the original teachings of the Buddha, provide a path to enter more fully into one’s life.

Ed Ramsburg will share an exercise he was taught in mindfulness by his mentor, Vo-Dinh Mai. You do not need to be an artist to do this exercise in watercolour, you just have to stay in the moment.

“‘When I first met Mai, I was a young man just starting out painting. In his class one day Mai stopped me from painting, tapping my head with his hand then running it down my arm to my hand holding a brush, saying “Eddie, be one with the brush, straight line from your head to your hand. One with the brush.'”

All art supplies are included in the cost of this class!

Cost: $45 RSVP: http://frederickmeditation.com/mindful-watercolour-painting

Tap into your body’s natural healing ability with guided meditation, gentle yoga and journaling in a compassionate group setting. Few of us are taught how to cope with day-to-day stress, much less grief. Fortunately, anyone can learn how to turn the stress switch to “off,” even during the most troubling of times. You do not need to be a Buddhist, have a background in mindfulness meditation or yoga, be physically fit, or subscribe to any particular set of spiritual beliefs to benefit from mindfulness.

Ease the physical symptoms of grief
Calm your mind and help you regulate difficult emotions
    Improve your present moment awareness
Increase compassion toward yourself and others
Help you make meaning from your loss
Develop your new self-narrative for moving forward

This 8 week class is designed to help your body recover from stress caused by grief & loss while providing you with peer support in a safe, non-judgmental environment. The program uses gentle movement and guided relaxation to help you manage the changes you are experiencing in your life and in your body. You will be given the opportunity to speak and be heard through group discussion and personal self-observation along with structured homework exercises.

This group is open to people who are providing end-of-life caregiving as well as those who have experienced the death of a loved one.

Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothes, and bring a journal and something to write with. Water and tea is provided, as well as mats, cushions and blankets, and you are welcome to bring your own yoga mat, props and snacks.

*Includes group sessions, day long retreat & Mindfulness & Grief

Frederick Meditation Center Owner Tells All

Heather Stang is the first to admit she used to be a stress addict. In this article, learn how she left her "Devil Wears Prada" life behind, and transformed into a compassionate healer using Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy & Mindfulness Meditation.
Confessions of a Former Stress-Addict

I haven't always been calm. Or even nice. I used to get high on my stress. It made me feel powerful. Less afraid. But that was only on the surface.

Underneath I was disconnected. My body was telling me I needed a change. When I didn't listen, it threw me on the mat and made me rethink my entire lifestyle.

This is how I turned my "stress into bliss" with Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy.
