Fontana Dam has been named as North Carolina’s newest #AppalachianTrail Community! This designation, bestowed by the AppalachianTrail Conservancy, will make Fontana Dam one of only three other North Carolina communities to hold such an honor. This program recognizes communities for their part in promoting awareness of the A.T. as an important national asset. “The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is proud to celebrate communities that are helping to protect and promote the Appalachian Trail,” stated Julie Judkins, Community Program Manager of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. A designation ceremony, to be held at Fontana Village Resort in Fontana Dam, is tentatively scheduled for March 26, 2015.

My family has been coming to Fontana Village since 1977, and the experiences here over the years has made a huge impact on my love of the Smoky Mountains. The resort has made a point of updating the cabins and amenities over time, and they are beautiful. That being said, the rooms in the lodge are clearly outdated, and require upgrading. Now that I have a family, we make a point of visiting this Heaven on Earth whenever we can. Prices are very reasonable, and the R&R you receive is worth every dime. We return next week.....Thank God.

We always have a good time here. Some cabins are more updated than others but always serviceable. The pools are nice and the lazy river is a great touch. Putt putt, disc golf, volleyball, playgrounds are all great. Neat little general store with the necessities as well as hand dipped ice cream and some souvenirs. Cell service is non-existent unless you're on Verizon, and then it's spotty. They have wifi but it's a little inconsistent depending on where you are on the property.

Always a great place. However they need to cut off the dang spotlights over the baseball field and tennis courts BEFORE the sun goes down. It really kills the outdoors vibe when you have massive shining spotlights lighting up the whole area and right in your eyes and they didn't shut them off until 10pm. Consider cutting them off a few hours earlier please, especially if there is no games being played.

A great place for families. There are bunches of activities and events that are perfect for all ages. They have a full calendar of events like firestarting competitions and square dancing lessons. Would recommend planning to bring your own food if you are staying a bit though as there aren't many dining options.

My stay was too short. Next time I need to place at least a few days out there. At the resort I didn't do much, was in area to drive 129. Room was clean, food at the grill was good. Staff very helpful with the area info.

So fun!! There was a worm family in the bathroom. That's a bit gross. But what a beautiful place, outdoors. So much to do. So much nature to see. Free smores.

Overall good experience. Great pool, views, activities. Putt Putt and hiking trails need some clean up work. Worst part of vacation was bug infestation in our cabin. Ants and centipedes took over everything. Had to throw a third of our food away.

I went to Fontana Village to play disc golf. It was an average course that required a great deal of hiking. The course signs were poor. The layout was confusing for a first time player. I play disc golf weekly, however this course is too difficult for any resort guest who may want to play for the first time. It would likely turn the guest away from disc golf forever. I expected the course to be much easier.
