Firefighting was a job where Janet Jaeger, 54, of Everett could help people, and be around others who wanted the same. She found it in a long career at the Clearview Fire Station for Snohomish County Fire District 7.
“I saw it as cerebral and physical,” she said, “and to me it's the closest thing to being a professional athlete.”

Starlene Roth of Marysville asked for more time before her March 22 sentencing so she could see her divorce finalized. She had planned to request a temporary release from jail to pack up all of her belongings from the house she shared with her husband, according to court papers. The judge said no.

To qualify, businesses must build a new operation or expand an existing one and add at least 25 jobs paying $18 or more an hour. If they meet those requirements, taxes on new construction could be waived for up to 10 years.
