Fallout 4  -

how about a lovely metal print of Fallout 4's garage art - a mere US$675.  mmmyeah, i think i've spent enough on 4.  still, it's 19" x 60", which is pretty rad.

Fallout 4  -

has anyone ever alerted an enemy due to knocking over random debris in Fallout 4?  i don't think this happened in 3 or NV, but i can't quite remember.  in 4, however, i feel like i've waded through piles of clanking metal rubbish without letting anyone know.

beware the can chimes, though, because enemies definitely WILL hear you!  (yeah, i'm talking to you, Cait.)

totally, +Elf Loved, right after she broke my character's heart he was mackin' on Magnolia.  he didn't get too far, though, so i don't think Cait was threatened...

both, but usually it's right-place-right-time and being quick on the console key.  iirc, i saw these guys walking but the guy on the right was still coming up the stairs, so i waited a moment for him to be framed by the truss and took a few shots at different zoom levels.  sometimes i will stalk enemies and watch them move around a bit to catch a good moment, and i'll definitely hit the console key and think about the shot and adjust my position and zoom.  (the Stealth Suit in FO3 was a photographer's best friend, i could go right up to some enemies!)

also, maybe 1-2% of the shots i take end up getting posted.  i take a lot of similar ones at different zoom levels and positions, but also i'll just ditch decent shots because they're only "decent".  gotta be your own harsh critic!

thanks, +Liberty Prime!

apparently the late 80's are back, according to Beyoncé's Rhythm Nation crew and Bruno Mars's new jack swing look.  seriously, Bruno, we gotta talk about that hair, tho...  it's dangerously close to a jheri curl.

is this like the veal of cilantro?  just what sorts of inhumane conditions did this cilantro endure to save some prep time?!

That is a great pic tho. Loving the silhouettes against the multitone darkening sky. I can see it being used as a promotional image.

Fallout 1-Tactics  -

today i learned that the original Fallout was dangerously close to having anthropomorphic characters.  one of the main designers, Brian Freyermuth, had written a location called Burrows, home to intelligent FEV-mutated raccoons.  this was called off, partially for logistical reasons (a whole other race for the artists to draw), but mostly because anthropomorphic stuff just isn't Fallout.

as lead designer Tim Cain later said:
"...I felt that its content was not appropriate to our Fallout universe, mainly based on its style and feel in the game and not on its artistic merit."

phew!  holy are the names of Cain, Norton, Urquhart, Avellone, and Howard.

Well FO3 mirelurks could easily be intelligent, in FO4 they turned them into actual giant crabs and lobsters

this is a simple smog check shop behind a gas station; it's basically a one-car garage with a counter and the equipment. it was quick and inexpensive; ask about an online discount, all he asks is that you post a review (see, i'm an honest person - here it is!). the gentleman worked efficiently and treated my car well. the smog check and brief paperwork took no more than 10 minutes on a weekday afternoon with no one waiting. he did mention that the hours vary depending on the day, so make sure to call beforehand if you're not sure.

i come back here regularly for the burgers. i don't drink, but my friends that do appreciate the beer menu; a buddy that lived in Germany for a while liked that the waitress didn't blink when he ordered some weird German cocktail of beer with a shot of soda in it. for a while they seemed to be perpetually understaffed, just one or two servers short of what you needed for speedy service, but they seem to have worked out their schedule and service is reasonable now. the burgers are a good size without feeling ridiculous, the meat is good (beef or lamb!), and the fries and onion rings are proper. the sausage sandwich menu is mixed: some of them are big and good, some are smaller and a bit on the bland side (start with the smoked kielbasa and then explore).

what a place! for an hourly rate you get a lift and a chest of hand tools (SAE and metric, mostly Snap-On/Williams) that includes a couple pneumatic wrenches. also included is access to specialty tools like spring compressors, brake piston compressors, or a tap and die set. there are some heavy shop tools like a stand grinder & brush, drill press, and hydraulic press. for an extra buck an hour you can use consumables like grease or the parts washer. there aren't super crazy manufacturer-specific tools (bring your own) or a bunch of sheet metal and welding stuff (not that kinda shop), but there's plenty to do serious car work. the folks that work there are very nice, extremely helpful, and accommodating to the realities of Murphy's Law. i came down to do a thorough but routine brake job on a 2007 S4: rotors, pads, lines, fluid flush, plus a fuel filter. it's been a while since i've done a brake job, but it still _should_ have been routine... but a combination of super-compact (and super-obnoxious) rear brakes with a few stuck and locally-unavailable bolts quadrupled the length of this job. thankfully, they have a reasonable overnight rate for these problem projects and the manager provided advice and exceptional service that was critical to getting the job done right. work carefully, take care of the tools and clean up after yourself, and they'll take great care of you. this kind of shop is perfect if you live in an apartment, your house is unsuitable for car work (i have no garage and a gravel driveway, ugh), or you just need the joy of a lift. you should have some experience with working on cars to save you time on the clock, for safety, and for proper tool use. they have ALLDATA on site, which is a handy resource, but for complex jobs you should come in there well-researched and preferably with printed-out procedures.
