i've been enjoying Electro Swing Revolution Radio with Fallout 4. Fallout's radio stations and scores are always entertaining, but they do eventually wear thin - especially after 600+ hours of play. it's nice to switch up the music, but i sill want it to feel appropriate for the game (i like drum n bass, for example, but i'm not going to play Fallout with it).

"electro-swing" seems like a great match for Fallout, then: swing, big band, and other jazz sounds are paired with house, breaks, and other beats for some foot-tapping fun. there's even remixes of songs familiar to Fallout players! i'm not 100% with the tracks they play (some are cheesy, many have similar-sounding beats), but overall i find the beats keep my energy up while the jazzy sounds don't detract from the game's aesthetic.

and, hey, electro-swing is a pretty realistic possibility if any new music were going to emerge between 1950 and 2077. the first experimentation with electronic music was done by electrical engineers in the days of vacuum tubes, so it seems plausible that someone would combine the Fallout universe's popular music with exotic new instrumentation.

Yeah. Those are some of the numerous reasons I refuse to ever drink and drive. Much less drink in general. If I were him I would definitely hold off on the new car.

As per medicating, I don't judge at all. Pretty much everyone out here I know does. Heh.

ugh, new pet peeve: people who reserve National Forest sites for just two days. there should be a three night minimum! finding availability for cabins is already a pain, then you have to sift through spotty coverage from tons of short trips.

oh, any suggestions you can just leave in "Discussion", perhaps mention some of us mods to make sure we see it. there is a "Fallout Mods" category, though people use it inconsistently.

and therein lies the lesson: they failed. human history can be marked by the failures of countries that would force their will on others purely for power, and the successes of those that would give people individual power for the benefit of all. eventually, they will all fail (even in Fallout).

i don't consider a society's success as based on how big or productive it gets. that's when a government can lose its connection to the people it's supposed to aid, and instead operates for its own survival - it exploits people. that's the ultimate failure of the Nazis, or the capital-F Fascists, or the Ba'ath, or any other ambitious political party that turned to violence: they professed to make their country stronger, but in the end they were invaded. what a bunch of losers.

i come back here regularly for the burgers. i don't drink, but my friends that do appreciate the beer menu; a buddy that lived in Germany for a while liked that the waitress didn't blink when he ordered some weird German cocktail of beer with a shot of soda in it. for a while they seemed to be perpetually understaffed, just one or two servers short of what you needed for speedy service, but they seem to have worked out their schedule and service is reasonable now. the burgers are a good size without feeling ridiculous, the meat is good (beef or lamb!), and the fries and onion rings are proper. the sausage sandwich menu is mixed: some of them are big and good, some are smaller and a bit on the bland side (start with the smoked kielbasa and then explore).

what a place! for an hourly rate you get a lift and a chest of hand tools (SAE and metric, mostly Snap-On/Williams) that includes a couple pneumatic wrenches. also included is access to specialty tools like spring compressors, brake piston compressors, or a tap and die set. there are some heavy shop tools like a stand grinder & brush, drill press, and hydraulic press. for an extra buck an hour you can use consumables like grease or the parts washer. there aren't super crazy manufacturer-specific tools (bring your own) or a bunch of sheet metal and welding stuff (not that kinda shop), but there's plenty to do serious car work. the folks that work there are very nice, extremely helpful, and accommodating to the realities of Murphy's Law. i came down to do a thorough but routine brake job on a 2007 S4: rotors, pads, lines, fluid flush, plus a fuel filter. it's been a while since i've done a brake job, but it still _should_ have been routine... but a combination of super-compact (and super-obnoxious) rear brakes with a few stuck and locally-unavailable bolts quadrupled the length of this job. thankfully, they have a reasonable overnight rate for these problem projects and the manager provided advice and exceptional service that was critical to getting the job done right. work carefully, take care of the tools and clean up after yourself, and they'll take great care of you. this kind of shop is perfect if you live in an apartment, your house is unsuitable for car work (i have no garage and a gravel driveway, ugh), or you just need the joy of a lift. you should have some experience with working on cars to save you time on the clock, for safety, and for proper tool use. they have ALLDATA on site, which is a handy resource, but for complex jobs you should come in there well-researched and preferably with printed-out procedures.
