Keep an eye on your health by checking your cholesterol and blood pressure levels. High cholesterol and/or blood pressure can lead to heart disease and stroke, so talk to your doctor about cholesterol levels, especially post-menopausal women! As the weather heats up, stay safe in the sun! Use sunscreen generously and skip the tanning beds. The sun is a source of vitamin D, which can protect against cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Try vitamin D supplements or eat D-rich foods like eggs, salmon, soy-based foods and fortified dairy products. More tips here: http://ow.ly/vuz4c.

Meet Darlene Frick! Darlene is the orientation supervisor for the Spiritual Care volunteer team, assigning floors and taking new volunteers around with her so they learn the ins and outs. She’s been visiting one floor regularly herself since she started volunteering 5 years ago, talking and praying with patients. Darlene says “I volunteer because it makes me feel as good as it makes the patients I meet feel. When we talk or pray together and they share their experiences, it makes me feel like I am contributing to their well-being.”

Congratulations to Santa Clara Sporting and Goals for a Cure for the recognition they've received in honor of the organizations’ fundraising efforts to provide free mammogram screening for uninsured & under-insured women in the community. Philanthropy and teamwork are key to a healthy community. What are some of the ways that you get involved in giving back to the community?

Introduction
El Camino Hospital is a nonprofit organization with hospital campuses in Mountain View, California and Los Gatos, California. Our hospitals have served communities in the South San Francisco Bay Area for more than 50 years. We strive to provide superlative care by focusing on patients’ needs, rather than on shareholders’ demands, and by incorporating the latest, proven medical technology and attracting the best medical staff and affiliated physicians.
