Congratulations to Ueli Steck for another stunning alpine speed record! Climbing the North Face of the ‪‎Eiger‬ on Monday, the Swiss climbing legend took just 2h 22m to summit the Heckmair Route (ED2, 1800m, 1938). This shaved five minutes from the existing record held by Daniel Arnolds, who had in turn taken the record from Ueli’s climb of 2h 47m in 2008. To put this amazing achievement in context, in 1938 it took three days for the first climbers to complete the route. Ueli Steck is an EFG ambassador.

Best of luck to Team LMT, which will shortly begin a bespoke Rapha Cent Cols Challenge covering 2,000km, with 40,000m of cumulative climbing and 100 mountain passes/cols. The challenge is in memory of the team’s founder, Lucy Monro, and in aid of the benevolent trust established in Lucy's name - the Lucy Monro Memorial Trust – following her tragic death in a cycling accident in February. Lucy was a great friend to EFG and is sorely missed. We wish everyone well for the challenge, which is fast approaching: Stage one commences on Tuesday 29th September.

The blog given here sums up Team LMT's motivation.

Congratulations to Benjamin Grosvenor for a truly stunning performance at the Last Night of the Proms on Saturday.

The young pianist's rendition of Shostakovich’s 2nd Piano Concerto has been widely praised, including this from the Daily Telegraph: 'He summoned a beautifully meditative, pearly tone in the second movement, where just for a moment the balloons stopped fizzing, and you could hear a pin drop. The quicksilver finale he tossed off with unimaginable brilliance.'

We are delighted to support Benjamin as he continues his remarkable musical journey. You can listen to the concert on the BBC website / on iPlayer via the link given here.
