The sun emitted 3 mid-level solar flares on July 22-23, 2016. This is what NASA’s SDO saw. http://bit.ly/2aeb7Vr

You have a chance to see all five bright planets – the planets observed by our ancestors since time immemorial – together shortly after sunset in late July and the first few weeks of August, 2016!

Can you see that the terminator line – line between light and dark on the moon – is slightly concave in image?

That’s because it was taken this morning, shortly after the moon reached the last quarter phase.

Photo by Jörgen Norrland Andersson in Sweden.

Farthest lunar perigee on July 27 http://bit.ly/2aqsMpC

The moon reaches perigee - its closest point to Earth - once each month. Today's perigee is the most distant one of 2016.

There’s a curious lack of big craters on the dwarf planet Ceres, largest body in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Why?

Answer here: http://bit.ly/2aeaH1c

Image shows the largest impact basin on Ceres, Kerwan Basin, via NASA’s Dawn spacecraft at an altitude of 2,700 miles (4,400 km).

Earth's shadow, sea and land http://bit.ly/2a9P0KQ

Earth's shadow is a blue-gray line ascending in the east each evening, as the sun sinks below the western horizon. Belt of Venus is a pink line above the shadow.
