The yearlong restoration of Duke Chapel began May 11 to rehabilitate the limestone ceiling and replace its original roof. This week, crews have begun repairing joints in the ceiling.

Marine scientists from Duke University, North Carolina State University and the University of Oregon discovered a shipwreck off the N.C. coast on July 12 during a research expedition aboard the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution research ship Atlantis. Artifacts on the wreck indicate it might date to the American Revolution.

Exciting news today: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded the Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI) a $20 million grant: http://ht.ly/PDLi7.

The money -- $10 million in endowment support and $10 million in challenge funds -- will help DGHI educate a new generation of leaders and experts, and build research capacity from Durham to Delhi to address critical global health challenges like Ebola, MERS, cancer and diabetes.
