You can't really tell what's going on, but you can defnitely see this was a hectic moment in last night's White Sox @ Red Sox game. Thanks Google Photos Auto-awesome!

Instead of asking the cash-strapped public-transit system to add a stop, the company simply paid for one itself.

Seems a lot more reasonable to me than requiring the taxpayer to fund a new station just because NB decided to build a lot of new buildings there.  I notice they aren't offering to pay for the extra trains and track maintenance that will be required, though - just the station and station maintenance.

I really, really enjoyed Rachel Edidin's take on the X-Man coming out flap. Had no idea this site published writing this good.

If you're not already a fan of the Velvet Underground or Lou Reed's solo work, this isn't likely to convert you, but I thought Reed's sister's account of his adolescence was sweet.

If no one interferes, I expect this to be one of the last snowpiles to completely disappear. Most is always shaded, the rest gets only morning sun. It does get warmed by bus exhaust, but the deposits also protect it. #meltprogress

You should start a betting pool on what month it will disappear in.

I didn't try to take any panoramic photos from the London Eye, but Google assembled one magically anyway. Nice!

Interview with Anti-Flag's Chris #2 makes me want to stand up and cheer. #punk   #empathy
Things are looking bleak. Innocent people are getting killed by the police and the police don’t seem to care. Civil rights are eroding. More and more, the dollar controls elections. The guys in Anti-Flag are bummed out about it. For 27 years, the band has been attacking political and social i.

I kept this story about author Maureen Johnson's encounter with Terry Pratchett open in a tab in my browser for weeks because everytime I saw it gave me a bittersweet sugar rush.
Terry Pratchett has just passed away, and it’s terrible. For everyone. He was dying, and that was bad, and he is died, and that is even worse. I don’t like to tell “people I have met at publishing parties” stories (for reasons that will soon become clear), but I am going to tell this one. Because Terry Pratchett is cool. He remains cool in death. He gets that forever. The year was either 2004 or 2005. I was newly published–just one or two books...

Really interesting way to examine changing attitudes. Many nuggets to mine, of which my immediate favorite is the blame shifting move from intoxicated drivERS to intoxicated driVING.

A day of rain at ~50F cleared a lot of ground around Boston, but had little effect on the Alewife snowmound. #meltprogress

My wife and I have stayed here 3 times in the past 3 years. Large, comfortable rooms, several pleasant public spaces (library, lounge) throughout the inn. Cooked-to-order breakfast --not exotic, but consistently good. Very friendly service.

Not cheap, but fairly priced, not the fastest, but have always met the schedule they promise. But absolutely the best workmanship, and the most knowledgable staff of any Boston-area bike shop I've tried.

Terrific 3 course breakfast, lots of interesting and eclectic art in the rooms and common spaces. Our innkeepers mentioned that they were very new to the inn, but that didn't negatively impact our experience. We'd definitely stay here again.

Two visits so far and we haven't ventured from the small plates yet. Everything has been flavorful. Open kitchen, always a bold choice. The decor is really interesting, incorporating some high tech dynamic art.

Extensive cocktail menu with a mix of classics and modern offerings, sharable plates with an emphasis on intense flavors and rich food (we did two rounds of the assorted sandwich plate). Was SRO when we arrived at nearly 10 on a Saturday night. Service much friendlier than I expect from a place with this sort of mood, too.

Had the Prix Fixe brunch. Everything we had was quite good, but the peppery smoked salmon might have been the highlight. We opted for wine pairings; the wines were very nice for by-the-glass offerings, but not necessarily matched particularly well with the specific dishes.
