Essential reading for anyone concerned about Bay Area housing and Silicon Valley socioeconomics. By far the most informative and level-headed piece I've seen.

On Twitter,@kfury says "This is literally the most misleading chart I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot of charts." and I think I have to agree.  Scroll down to see @PFedewa's revision for comparison. (h/t @meyerweb)

Yes, not deliberate, but that almost makes it worse. It's so incredibly incompetent it almost boggles the mind. I've never seen a chart before in my life in which the numerical vertical axis was inverted like that.

Great story on legendary Boston band Human Sexual Response, by +Matt Parish of the late lamented Ho-Ag (which makes total sense).   #bonusTomLehrerContent

I have mixed feelings about street art/graffiti but I've really enjoyed many of the "NOT ART" stencils in the Boston area over the last year or so -- I thought a lot of them were clever, and effectively played on the tension between what we do and don't judge by aesthetic criteria. This one, though, seems mean and destructive. Disappointing. #donotlike

This TED talk on the risks of autonomous weapon systems is nearly a year old, but new to me. Suarez writes SF, but this is not at all about SkyNet scenarios (although I still think Identify-Friend-Foe bugs/hacks is an area of legitimate concern). Disturbing, and all-too credible.

I'm not endorsing any of the content or people referenced, but I thought this was an interesting read. And might make good reference material for a certain sub-genre of thriller.

Handy list of #heartbleed  vulnerability/status for a number of popular services. Hope they keep this updated, as there's still an uncomfortable number of "unclear"s.

If you have a Mac and a Fitbit Ultra, and it sometimes won't synch for no good reason (and restarting the Mac seems too drastic/inconvenient), try this (type the commands in a terminal window. You'll need your password handy.) I predict this will save me about seven minutes a year.

Note: to date we've only ever gotten take out, and only pasta rather than entrees. nly a handful of tables, very intimate setting. Classic menu with a focus on execution. Ingredients seem to be of very good quality, pasta is homemade. We've loved everything we've tried so far.

Great beer selection, assortment of creative and vintage cocktails. Food very good -- gouda and ale fondue was particularly decadent. Vegetarian choices are limited, but there are a few.

Inventive and surprising twists on Japanese cuisine. The seaweed salad, for instance, was more like a Western lettuce-based salad with seaweed integrated into it. The miso-mushroom pizza was definitely another highlight. (It's available in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian versions -- our party ordered both, and the non-vegetarians in the group seemed to like their version a lot too.) Vegetarians will appreciate the large menu with veg versions of many of the dishes, clearly specifying the alterations. It was quite a busy night for the restaurant, but the service was a little less attentive than I would prefer (e.g., one drink order was lost).

In general, I'm a big fan of all the Clover locations I've been to -- healthy, tasty, and inexpensive food that just happens to be vegetarian (but really appeals to non-vegetarians as well; I have plenty of direct evidence of this.) The Cambridge Street Clover location has a weird shape to it, it's very long and skinny. Seems like the employees get a lot of exercise walking from the food prep area to the counter.

Very friendly, fast, and good pizza. I wound up eating more slices than I planned to!

On our first visit we got takeout, falafel and pumpkin ravioli. The pumpkin ravioli was quite good, but much sweeter than I was expecting, also quite rich - really, almost like a dessert. The falafel was good. We do plan to visit again.

Rented a bike for 2 weeks, reserved online in advance. Very reasonable cost. Bike was perfectly set up, ready to go as soon as I arrived. Even had a license plate with my name on it, which might sound silly, but is very useful when you're looking for an unfamiliar bike in a crowded bike parking location. Staff at the shop were also very helpful and friendly. I will definitely rent from Undiscovered Country any time I need a bike in the Mountain View area. Trying to think of a negative to balance out this review -- but I really can't.
