Id say the interesting part is the material itself, which the article does not mention but its something that can be extruded. There is an old solution to housing that has similar properties - earthen construction. Cob or Haybale for example. dirt, straw, sand, water. Extrude that and when the house's usefullness is over, plow it into the ground with no adverse effects, and build a new one.
We have seen huge advancements in 3D printing. We’ve even seen oversized wrenches printed that measure 1.2 meters in length. Now, we can print an entire 2,500 sqft house in 20 hours. In the TED Talk video below, Behrokh Khoshnevis, a professor of Industrial & Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC), demonstrates […]

yeah thx. caught the part where it say concrete mixed with (?)something. still, the process could eventually be tweaked. hoping for the rammed-earth robots.

Sorry, we do not have that capability at this time.

I was also introduced to this via Nathan's talk (thanks!).  I'm interested in using open data and technology to help make government more efficient and better serve residents via data-based decisions.  I do a bit of GIS for fun and am interested in data mining and visualization.

Hi Don,

We don't have that capability yet.  We are exploring if it is possible
to post updates on a drawbridge's open/closed status in real time on our
website.  We agree this would be valuable information to be able to
share with the public.

I would like to use a program to query a multnomah county server
computer about the open or closed status of each bridge the county
maintains. A real-time data service that says whether or not a given
bridge has stopped traffic or not due to opening the span. Does such a
data service exist?

Thank You,

Thanks for clearing up some confusion I had about this. I was thinking of posting this way but then thought that someone wouldn't see it unless they saw it in their stream. I realize now from these comments & looking at my Notifications settings that people will get notified if I share things with them directly (as opposed to a circle). (Either by email, SMS or Notifications tab.)
