Their customer Service is absolutely outstanding. Tina Pellegrini and I have been working together for several years now and she is the best. I had a major electronics purchase to make and they were unable to match the price and I actually felt guilty buying it elsewhere. She spoke to their buyer and they were unable to come close, surprising given their volume. Every other time they have been competitive. I enjoy doing business with her and would characterise my self as a loyal Defender customer and I am in Canada although my yacht is in the US.

It bothers me to have to write this review, as I've been very happy with every interaction with Defender -- up until today. Defender has been my go-to for a long time, having better prices than most of the competition, and carrying a large selection of high quality products. I'm in the market for a new RIB dinghy, and after deciding on a product after doing some research, I looked at Defender first, and they carried the Mercury RIB that I wanted. I also called around to some local dealers closer to home (Long Island), who were both less expensive, but had to order the RIB with a week delivery time. I need it for the end of this week, and with my work travel schedule, it just made sense to make the 2 hour drive to Defender and buy it since they had it in-stock. I made the 130 mile drive today, and after getting caught in unexpected traffic, and then getting in to a small fender bender on the way, I arrived at 2:45, just before they closed at 3. I went right to the inflatables section, and gave the associate the model information of the RIB I wanted to purchase. He confirmed it was in-stock, and then advised that they were closing and he wouldn't have time to complete the sale. I asked if he would be able to find someone else to handle the transaction for me, he called another gentleman over (may have been a manager) who also advised that I would have to come back another day. Don't get me wrong, I understand that I arrived late and that these folks have families to get home to, etc. With that said though, I wasn't coming in to buy a $20 part and asking them to stay late for assistance. I was there to spend $2000. I am beyond frustrated because I have been a loyal customer, having spent thousands of dollars there in the last nine months. I can guarantee after this experience that I will be taking my business to any place BUT Defender going forward.

I am an old Professional Capt who has delt with Sheldon way back in New Rochelle in a dank warehouse then "upgrade" to the grocery store and later to the "big move to the boonies" with young Steven. Defenders was a pioneer in wholesale quality Marine stuff and cutting edge technology and while I have a Port Supply discount at West and industry trade discount Hamilton and Jamestown I usually get my best prices at Defenders. I try to be a thrifty sonofabitch!

As good as an online marine supply store gets. In my experience, it has a comprehensive selection of items, flawless service, VERY fast delivery, and prices that are as low - or nearly as low - as any competitor. If you are lucky enough to live within driving distance, you have two options; either order online or buy in person. I have had a pump fail midweek on a cruise, ordered the part on my ph9one, and had it waiting for me at the dock when I gather back!

I regret going to Defender Marine. Ten days after having bought a chart plotter online and paid for expedited delivery I phone to ask where it was. There was apparently some small print that I had missed whereby I should have - after the purchase- phoned so that I could be told the item was on back order. Finally the chart plotter arrived, without the charts, so now I'm on my 4th phone call with them to try and find out when/how I can get some charts for the chart plotter - as per my original purchase nearly a month ago. Sure I can use a paper chart in the interim, but honestly this experience has not been worth the money I saved.

Good Morning Joy, I saw your review and do again have to say the fact that it was a back ordered item was not apparently some small print, we really do our best through the entire online process to advise of the stock status: The stock status said: call to confirm. Then when you check out before the order is placed we show the quantity back ordered. And then, finally, on the email copy, the one you sent back to us shows the quantity back ordered. I do feel we do our due diligence in making the check-out process user friendly and offering all information up front. Great selection and better prices than anyone else within a reasonable distance. Their annual spring warehouse sale is definitely worth the trip, but it is a mob scene!

The help at the fender was really good but the prices have got to come down a heck of a lot the prices have to be competitive with other places when you're working on a shoestring budget or trying to work on boats you can't do with high prices all of the time
