Australia is more barbaric than France, yet in the short term the Martin Place mad man seems to have been neutral or positive for public sentiment towards Muslims. Perhaps this strategy is less effective or even harmful to the cause in societies where information is shared more readily?

This is awesome
The mighty scumdogs of GWAR have terrified A.V. Undercover with their presence twice before—first in the tiny round room with the definitive version of Kansas’ “Carry On Wayward Son,” then in our newer space with a sideways glance at Billy Ocean’s “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car.” As everyone

That is the most incredibly cringeworthy interview I think I've ever seen.

It's amazing how incredibly clueless George Brandis is on technology. After this trainwreck, he should not be allowed to make any changes to data retention legislation.

Attorney-General George Brandis attempts to explain the Government's proposed data retention laws.

TONY Abbott suggested a unilateral invasion of Iraq, with 3500 Australian ground troops to confront the Islamic State terrorist group.

Apparently Tony Abbott thinks G.I. Joe cartoons are documentaries.

Not to rain on anyone's Christmas cheer, but the NSA posted this report on Dec 24th to avoid media scrutiny.

Pretty sure just from a cursory read of this it's more evidence:

(a) The NSA and intelligence officials lied to Congress
(b) There is one more drop in the ocean of data the NSA and its companion organizations need, at minimum, new checks & balances.

Since there is a sizable minority of Democratic elected officials who oppose this, but they are the party who actually believes that government can be efficacious, now that Republicans control both houses, they're going to apply their philosophy of smaller government and fix this problem.

Right?

...

Sorry, that was a joke: The Republicans are the party who wanted to bury the already-much-weaker-than-it-should-be intelligence report on torture; we'll be lucky if they don't vote for Snowden to be water boarded or something.
The National Security Agency today released reports on intelligence collection that may have violated the law or U.S. policy over more than a decade, including unauthorized surveillance of Americans’ overseas communications.

Can you polish the damage off the end of the ruby, or is its length tuned to the lasing wavelength?

The position of the mirrors is what determines the length of the cavity, not the lasing medium itself.  I don't think cavity length is very critical in a laser of this type.  The alignment is far more important.

For those who are not up to date on politics in Spain, here's the only source I've quickly found which provides some background on the theme for this artwork http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/08/18/will-scandal-sink-the-spanish-royal-family.html
