Yesterday I had a conversation with a makeup artist who was clearly getting in her own way.
I had the occasion to call this artist [who had attended the PYP Summit] about a huge opportunity which I believe could have been worth about another $10-$20,000 a year for her.
I was sad, and disappointed to hear her say that her website was STILL not ready, the guy she had hired to do it had let her down (and as such had become the excuse for her website not being ready), and work that was nearly a year old had yet to be added to her site.
I was so angry I yelled at her. It is very disheartening for me to see such potential going right down the drain.
Now-a-days anyone can have a beautiful website for $5.75 a month. There are no more excuses for not having an affordable website––and I'm not talking about GoDaddy either. But still people find excuses and repeat them out loud as if they were actual reasons for not accomplishing the task.
She is a single mom who will not GET OUT OF HER OWN WAY!
One day, she will be sitting in front of that kitchen table that I was talking about on the #periscope (https://www.periscope.tv/CrystalAWright
) complaining about her bills and probably never once will she think that she is the reason that she is broke. It will all be someone else's fault some other reason why it didn't happen.
But the reason will be that she didn't commit, that she wasn't willing to sacrifice even the slightest creature comfort in order to create a future for herself and her daughter. The real story won't be told.
The made-up story will be that it was someone else's fault, some other reason, something that didn't happen, something that didn't fall into place.
The truth will be that the effort wasn't put in, the time wasn't put in, the "No I can't go tonight I have to upload these new pictures on my website, re-do my resume, take this YouTube photoshop course so I can retouch My own photos"--never comes.
Fear takes over and excuses become the norm.
If you're reading this, be honest with yourself today. Kick fear in the butt and keep it moving.
