On Tuesday evening the Federation of Hellenic American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley hosted a meeting at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. One of the projects this year will be to introduce the Eleftheria Literary contest that recognizes jr. and sr. contestants from the Sights and Sounds Annual event hosted every year by the metropolis. This year’s parade theme will commemorate the 100 anniversary of the Pontian genocide.

Helen H. Anderson passed away peacefully in Doylestown on November 12, 2018, surrounded by her family. Friends and family are invited to her viewing from 10 am to 11 am Friday, November 16th at Vraim Funeral Home, 66 S. State Rd, Upper Darby, PA 19082. A short funeral service will follow at 11 am at the funeral home. Her interment will follow at Fernwood Cemetery.

Diana G. Mallas passed away on November 11, 2018. Her funeral service will be 11 am Friday, November 16, 2018, at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 35 North Malin Road, Broomall, PA 19008. Viewing, one hour prior to service in the church. Interment, Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery.

On Saturday evening, guests and friends of Hellenic Hearts gathered for their second annual thank you dinner at Estia Restaurant. The casual affair hosted by Hellenic Hearts provided a relaxed atmosphere for its members to unite and get to know each other. And, as a way to say thank you for what you do. Guests enjoyed a meal, dancing and hearing about the future of Hellenic Hearts via its leadership.

Despoina Sarakis, born in Mytilene, Greece, passed away on November 8th, 2018, at the age of 93. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, 10:30 am, at Evangelismos of Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church, 6501 Bustleton Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19149. Family and friends are invited to his viewing one hour before service at the church.

November 8, 1977, Dr. Manolis Andronikos, Professor of Archeology at the University of Salonika, discovers the Tomb of Philip II of Macedon in Vergina. Philip II of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great, was assassinated in 336 B.C. and buried with all the trappings of a member of the Macedonian Royal House. Philip’s tomb was lost to history but over 1,600 years later, Dr. Andronikos began searching for it in 1962 in Vergina, Macedonia, Greece.
