An unfortunate near-drowning accident left little Sparrow’s family fearing for the worst. She was unconscious without a pulse for 47 minutes which resulted in severe brain damage due to a lack of oxygen to the brain.

Despite the multiple therapies that were enlisted to help her development, Sparrow was only improving at a painfully slow pace.

Fortunately, Sparrow’s parents made the decision to store her cord blood at birth. Find out how cord blood gave Sparrow a lease of life @ http://snip.ly/koz6km.

Cord blood, also called “placental blood”, is blood that remains in the umbilical cord and placenta following the birth of a baby and after the umbilical cord is cut after delivery.

Cord blood is a rich source of Haematopoietic Stem Cells (HSCs) which are responsible for replenishing blood and regenerating the immune system.

In addition, HSCs are also known as naïve precursor cells as they have a unique ability to differentiate into the different types of cells found in the body, namely: Red Blood Cells, White Blood Cells and Platelets.
