A long laugh erupted from Archie Griffin when he was asked how former Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes would have reacted to players trying to form a labor union. Griffin’s chuckle, however, quickly gave way to a more serious answer, with his tone reflecting an increasingly serious topic in college athletics.

DELAWARE, Ohio — Otis the pug helps his blind partner navigate the world around him.

He sticks close by when the two go for walks. He alerts his companion when strangers are coming. Sometimes, he even helps him find food and water.

Otis is no ordinary guide dog, though: His partner, Bandit, is a Shih Tzu.

The wrestling giant, all 5 feet 5 of him, had been toppled, and now the loser slumped in a hallway deep in the bowels of Rec Hall on Penn State’s campus.

Logan Stieber’s shoulder ached. His hamstrings burned. He was sweat-drenched, exhausted.

If there was anything that stuck out about Bill Standley when he was alive, it was that he did things exactly the way he wanted to do them, usually while riding a motorcycle or a horse.

This morning, his family and friends gave him a funeral fitting of that life.
MECHANICSBURG, Ohio — If there was anything that stuck out about Bill Standley when he was alive, it was that he did things exactly the way he wanted to do them, usually while riding a motorcycle or a horse. This morning, his family and friends gave him a funeral fitting of that life. Instead of lying down in a casket, Standley sat astride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle in a casket made of plexiglass and plywood.

The past 13 months have seen the longest stretch of sustained success in the 13-season history of the Blue Jackets. The team is on pace to set numerous franchise records, and its strong play reaches well back into last season. The only place it hasn’t reached is the box office.

With its famous gorillas, cute baby elephant and twin polar bears, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has plenty to endear itself to Franklin County voters.

But is that enough to win passage of a permanent levy that would cost taxpayers twice what they’re now paying?

Since the Ohio Constitution prohibits same-sex marriages, gay couples can’t provide a marriage license and thus aren't permitted to have wedding or wedding receptions at the Statehouse.
The Statehouse welcomes weddings and receptions, but not if you’re a gay couple. Since 2006, the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board — the agency that manages the Statehouse and grounds — has permitted couples to get married and hold wedding receptions at the Statehouse. The catch is, couples must provide an Ohio marriage license.
