Environmental artist Lucy Holtsnider '11 and hydrologist/climate researcher Zion Klos '09 are about to embark on a year-long art and science collaboration called Climate Odyssey. Starting this June they will spend a year sailing from the great lakes to the Atlantic coast and into the Caribbean, documenting climate change impacts and adaptations.

Lucy will use her experience as an artist to craft photographs and interviews from the journey into visually appealing scientific resources, including an interactive digital map, blog, and edition of artists’ books. Zion’s knowledge of climate science will keep the artistic perspective scientifically accurate and up-to-date with current research. Their complimentary skills in art, science, and communication make them an ideal team to share climate change impacts and adaptations with new audiences.

Learn more about their project here: http://www.climateodyssey.org/

A documentary co-produced by Assistant Professor of Film and New Media Studies Dylan Nelson, which also includes the work of numerous Colorado College film students, will will be opening in theatrical release this weekend.

The film, “Merchants of Doubt,” directed by Robert Kenner (“Food, Inc.”) and inspired by the book by Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway, explores science denial and shows how pundits-for-hire have helped sow doubt about man-made climate change.

Nelson spent two years on the film, which also provided opportunity for a number of Colorado College students and recent graduates. Among them are Ryan Loeffler '12, who served as assistant editor and additional cameraman and continues to work fulltime at Robert Kenner Films; Jon Harmon '12 and Sarah Zinn '13 who served as production assistants; Daniel Wright '13 and Melissa Rush '14, summer interns; and Ali Meyung '11, Laurel Hesse '13, Will Thomsen '13, Amy Rippe ’14, and Michaela Kobsa-Mark ’15, who did transcription work.

Congrats to Abigail Washburn '99 and +Béla Fleck on their new album, coming out tomorrow! Listen to it today on +NPR.
The married couple's first album together as a duo is notable for its understated, welcoming calm. Across 11 short, carefully arranged slivers of Americana, their two banjos join in warm conversation.
