Mainstream culture often portrays black women as stereotypes, failing to represent their complexities and multitudes of definitions. The art exhibition titled “Beyond Mammy, Jezebel, & Sapphire: Reclaiming Images of Black Women” is one of many recent shows attempting to overwrite the stale stereotypes that restrict black women in media and culture, and is coming to the IDEA Space in March 2017! See the link for more information on this exciting project visiting our campus. http://2cc.co/2hSYQEw
Let's look beyond the Mammy, the Jezebel and the Sapphire.

CC celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with speakers, performances and community on Monday, January 16. Whether you are on campus for half-block, or resting up at home, we'd love your participation. We're kicking off festivities with an “All People’s Breakfast” from 8-10 a.m. in Reid Gym in El Pomar Sports Center. Tickets (free for students, fee for outside community members) will be available at the Worner Desk starting Dec. 15. And if you can't make it on the 16th, Fifth Block's "First Monday" speaker is Russell Rickford, who will discuss the impact and continued relevance of King’s enduring legacy.

Earlier this month, Colorado College Life Trustee and alumna Jane Rawlings (class of '70) was inducted as a member of the Pueblo Hall of Fame in recognition of the role she has played in advancing her hometown. In 1996, Rawlings returned to work for her family’s newspaper, The Pueblo Chieftain. Her initial focus was to increase the paper’s Internet presence and to fight for the protection of Pueblo’s water supply, but her involvement expanded beyond the newspaper, to multiple business, civic and social causes throughout the region. Congratulations, Jane! Click here for more information: http://2cc.co/2hST7yQ
