Designer Giovanna Roy '15 runs Mermaid Crowns, a company that designs sea-themed sculptured headdresses for specialty boutiques. This weekend she helped out at Nashua's Oceans of Discovery Fairy Fest, a city-sponsored event designed to promote literacy.
Why mermaids for Roy? She has Asperger Syndrome, a form of Autism, and identifies with the inspiring symbol of the mermaid. "She is human but different, beautiful, powerful and lives among the sea animals I love," says Roy on her website, www.mermaidcrowns.com
A portion of Mermaid Crowns' proceeds go toward the preservation of sea animals and toward autism awareness.
