For fellow #GDG organizers with communities interested in digitizing your own personal shoebox of social data and learning Go programming language Camlistore is a great personal side project.
Camlistore can be deployed locally on your own laptop or easily hosted on Google cloud platform. Written mostly in Golang, Camlistore can be deployed in other modern environments, there is also an Android uploader app to sync pictures. The Camli architecture is designed for importers, such a Twitter, FourSquare (Swarm), RSS, Picasa -- a RunKeeper importer is under development.
People with many years of emails in archives often ask about importing them into Camlistore, this is planned, but is not there yet. Since Camlistore is F/OSS, Golang developers can contribute new importers. Source submissions work rather like Linux's.
Personally I learned the most about Google Compute Platform by hands on hacking on Camlistore often deploying on GCP and even writing a front end for to modernize perishable food storage in very large cooler. Share what is latest stored in the cooler for distribution or pick up by food banks. Not Camlistores' designed use case, but you get the idea it is flexible for building on.
Thanks to all Seattle GDG organizers on A/V, and everyone who made this event happen.
