July 2 marks the 50th anniversary of the #CivilRightsAct. 1964 was also the year when Malcolm X spoke at Clark, brought to campus by D'Army Bailey '65 (who had been expelled from Southern University in 1962 for "failure to adjust"). Bailey - lawyer, judge, actor, activist - was profiled in the fall 2010 CLARK alumni magazine. Read his story here.

This annual collaboration between Clark and the American Psychological Association grew from the vision and generosity of Dr. Lee Gurel '48, who studied psychology at Clark. "I saw a way to repay a massive debt—the debts I owed to education in general and Clark in particular, to the profession, and to the many wonderful teachers who have contributed so much to my life,” said Dr. Gurel.
