The hospital of the future will be significantly different from the hospitals we see today. According to some reports, not a single administrator, doctor, or patient can clearly tell what these hospitals will look like. According to Gary M. Burk, Principal at Terrie L Kurrasch Senior Associate Ratliff, the future hospital won’t be a healthcare facility. Due in part to technological innovations and the general delivery system, amalgamation, consolidation, and the ever-evolving regulatory environment, future hospitals won’t be as richly utilized, nor will they be as resource intensive as the hospitals of today.

Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness among working-age adults. According to the 7th edition of the Diabetes Atlas, more than 400 million people globally currently live with diabetes and by 2040 the number will grow to 642 million. It is estimated by the American Academy of Ophthalmology that 80% of diabetics will eventually develop some level of diabetic retinopathy. Despite the fact that early detection and treatment can prevent up to 95% of vision loss cases, typically only half of patients with diabetes see an eye specialist for an annual retinal exam.

There is often a lack of understanding regarding the differences between the market segments of acute and non-acute facilities. These differences can have an immediate effect on the way products are ordered. More importantly, they can have an effect on how they are delivered, which can translate into high costs for non-acute customers and a potential supply chain nightmare.

As a healthcare facility you need to lower costs in order to provide better quality care to your patients. Cutting corners on the level of care you provide is not an option, therefore it is necessary to find ways to cut costs where you will see the least impact on your patients and team. Working with a medical distributor can often be an effective way of saving money as it offers a number of advantages over working with multiple vendors. Here is a pros and cons overview that outlines the benefits of working with a medical distributor: http://hubs.ly/H03BM3h0 #MedicalEquipment #EquipmentDelivery

Purchasing medical equipment is an entirely different animal when doing so for off-site locations, such as maternity clinics, freestanding ambulatory surgery centers, or imaging centers. When buying for facilities outside of the main hospital, there are several third-party individuals involved in whom you must place your trust. That said, having too many hands in the pot often leads to mistakes due to miscommunication, among other things. To help you combat these errors, we’ve come up with four tips to keep in mind when purchasing capital medical equipment for off-site locations. Ordered some equipment from their website and ran into all sorts of problems. Took over 3 months to receive the simple piece of equipment. Then it was an incorrect and they charged us 20% restocking fee plus shipping. Very frustrating and I assume some of the responsibility was on Welch Ally. Website was also deceiving and didn't include many technical details for the hardware we needed.
