Ach.English is a bastard dialect of Norse, low Latin, German and Celtic (or it was when it originated around Yorkshire/Lincolnshire/Anglia - the area of England where the Germans/Danish/Dutch (Friesland, saxons, angles); Norse (vikings); and the remnants of Roman britain converged). Norman French and subsequent additions overlaid that. So from a certain point of view, we all speak a dialect of Yorkshire, tha knows. Nobody has a 'correct' accent. Apart from me, that is :-)
Personally, I like the accent of a Swiss/German girl speaking English - the clarity of the German, the music of the Celts, the sultriness of the French but speaking better grammar than me. Very nice!
