Our cover story this week looks at the shooting death, ruled a suicide, of 19-year old Denzel Curnell of Charleston.
Attorney Andy Savage has gone to bat for the police several times in his nearly four decades practicing law. But in the case of Denzel Curnell, who died of a gunshot wound June 20 while a Charleston police officer was present, Savage says he had to side with the family of the deceased and not with the officer. Investigators and the solicitor said Curnell’s death was a suicide, but Savage wasn't convinced.

We talked with the creator of CBS' Reckless ahead of the show's Sunday premier! Check out what to expect in the new Charleston-set crime drama.
Read almost any article about the upcoming Charleston-set CBS legal drama Reckless, and you probably won't find much of anything about courtroom showdowns. Instead, it's going to be about sex, sex, and more sex.

Experimental MDMA psychotherapy for veterans fighting PTSD is being conducted in Charleston.
While James Hardin was on MDMA at his therapist's office, he closed his eyes and saw open books scattered around the room. Each one contained images and stories almost too horrible to tell: bodies blown apart, near misses from improvised explosive devices, a barrage of mortar fire from unseen insurgents in the Iraqi desert.

Meet our new Summer Guide, courtesy of Charleston Apparel.
We here at the City Paper love American Apparel, and it’s not because they run a regular ad on the back page of the paper.

And so we have come to the sad, sad day when NASA's headquarters, the Kennedy Center, is being forced to throw a garage sale in order to pursue future, underfunded projects.
