Honestly. I was given a room which was nice with a good view. But a thread bare towel with a hole in it. A hole for God's sake. Isn't this £115 per night? Can they not afford a towel? They did fix the air conditioning. In the lobby bar I was told by the server that they would over cook the £14 burger and there was nothing they could do about it. It was like a piece of cardboard. A beer was £4.70. I have eaten better for a lot less. The server was a nice guy. I have a 3 day conference ahead of me. Wish me luck...

I booked 1 night's stay and 2 rounds of golf for 3 people, our department President visiting from the USA and 2 of my bosses. One of the guests, two days from the booked reservation, had an accident and would need to go to hospital. When I rang the reservations office and spoke to Laura, I was told the full amount for all bookings would be taken from the credit card supplied by the arrival date (following day) so all reservations would need to be moved or "the system" would log the money as a no-show and nothing further could be done on their end. Despite knowing this to be false in case someone on their end makes a mistake, I commented no further and instead explained that I could not confirm a date at this time as I couldn't get in touch with the gentleman who was in hospital. I requested to move the bookings temporarily so as to avoid the system locking us out but would appreciate them moving it again to the 'proper' date once I heard back from him on how he was and if he would even be able to play or by when. This request was firmly denied; bookings would only be moved the one time. I clarified the situation about him being in hospital and outlined that it might not be possible to hear back from him today as, for goodness' sake, he's in hospital and we don't know if or by when he could play. I suggested perhaps there may be someone who could over-ride said system as I was not asking for a refund, just one bit of flexibility with moving the bookings. I was asked to wait while she explained this to the reservations manager, Adam Griffiths. When she came back on the line, I was told that we should claim back the lost costs from our insurance company as though she'd never heard of "insurance premiums." As I sat there in stunned silence, with absolutely no mercy she asked, "So I'll reconfirm these bookings are to be cancelled?" Surprised I said, "What? No!" "But you said you don't know when you can move them to," she pointed out, completely uncaring. "You said we had until 6pm tonight to move this," it was 4.30pm. I asked a few more questions about time limitations, was told I actually had until 8pm, and ended the call. As an added bonus, when I managed to get a hold of one of my bosses and he named a date, I returned to speak with reservations and was told the rooms booked for £172 would now cost £211 (+£39 each) and the green fees at £57 now up to £62. I suppose so long as you show up on time, this place must be lovely to visit. But if you need any flexibility on short notice, even in extenuating circumstances, expect no help at all from these people - nor expressions of any sympathy nor understanding.

Celtic Manor is no longer a Spa it's now a down - market Centre Parc. Loads of under 10's running around the spa is not what you pay for. A 35 minute queue for breakfast is not what you pay for. No room in the bar to sit down is not what you pay for. Terry Matthews has sold his soul !! Checking out and heading to The Vale.

What an amazing place. The staff are so attentive. It was my mum's birthday and they made her feel like a princess for the day- they went the extra mile and beyond. Lots of great restaurants to choose from and the spa is blissful. A wonderful resort to escape to
