This museum is so fun! We took our 1 1/2 year old here and he had a blast. There was so much for him to explore. The water play area and the play kitchen area were fun. The upstairs early education area was his favorite and perfect for ages 5 and under I'd say. So many activities to engage all the senses. We ate lunch at the cafe and it was overpriced and just ok tasting. But im glad we had the option since we didn't bring a lunch. Our son was too excited by all the activities around us to eat so next time we'll eat outside or before we arrive. Bring extra clothes and socks - he got soaked I'm the water play, even with the aprons.

My daughter and I had such a wonderful time here. She is 15 months and had a great time at the upstairs area designed for little children. They make a very safe environment and I felt safe letting her run around.

Our kids aged 3 and 6 love the Children's Discovery Museum. It feels like a really safe environment for them to run about in and even though they know it really well, they never get tired of it. I also think the food at the cafe is well above average with a good selection of healthy options for kids. Our kids love the diy facepainting, the bubbles, the ball/waterway area, the craft, the imaginary play (kitchen, store, fire engine, ambulance) and the mammoth section. Parking is easy at the flat rate parking lot across from the museum for $5 a day.

Ok place - kids will spend an hour or two. Exploratorium is way better!

Great activity/discovery/science museum for kids. Bring dry clothes as the water play area is great fun and will soak your little ones! Long queue and few free tables in rush hour at the museum café. No wi-fi, no parking. Park along Woz way ($2/hr, meter) or at the $5 all day parking place up the road (follow signs outside the museum)

We went here with my 1 year simply because we were ducking the heat. However I was pleasantly surprised at all the activities and offerings. It has an indoor water area for the kids to play. My son loved it!

This place is overrated. It should be more upfront about what kind of activities exist and what age group they target. Its not a big place, which means it gets packed quickly as well. Not sure why they charge the adults to enter... Can't let the kids in by them selves... And there is nothing for parents to do either. Worst of all the parking is impossible to get. It has none of its own, and the day I went there, I spent an hour looking for parking. That been said the kids liked it... But it was a very rushed affair for the reasons I explained above.... And I don't think the kids learnt much.

We are still looking for (and grateful to) folks who have a second to click the "vote" button under the Museum's video. The contest prizes would boost our bottom line, and help us better achieve our mission of inspiring lifelong learning in children. Thanks again!

Thanks to Mary Mactavish for originally posting the link.

from my email, please help out one of our favorite places (very very easy click, no registration required, feel free to share)

+Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose   has entered a video contest, and we REALLY need your help! ADP, our payroll company, is sponsoring a video contest for small business clients (less than 250 employees) to say why they like working with ADP as their payroll company. Our video is now up on the ADP gallery (link below) for voting.
Watch our video and vote at: http://www.beyondthestartup.com/video-gallery.html
Our immediate goal is to get in to the top five most voted for: WE NEED YOU!!! You can vote once per device (home, work, smart phone, tablet,) voting ends December 15th. Share this email, and ask your family and friends to VOTE! The five videos with the most votes will then be judged by ADP executives to win one of three prizes: $100,000 of free advertising; one year of free ADP payroll services with their new software program; or one year of free ADP payroll services. WOW – this would really impact CDM in a Mammoth way!
Please help CDM by voting!

Join us Saturday, November 1st, along with many other Bay Area Organizations, for Discovery Days at AT&T Park. This event is free.

Bay Area Science Festival Kicks Off This Thursday, October 23

"When you hear about the +Bay Area Science Festival+Kishore Hari, the festival’s director, doesn’t want you to think of the dry school science fairs of your youth.

“I always tell people to think festival, not fair,” he says. Forget the potato battery, the baking soda volcano and the boring poster boards. “It’s the picture of you laughing, experiencing emotions, learning something. It’s a true celebration.”

There are 56 events in ten days, beginning Thursday."
The Bay Area Science Festival features events like a bike ride through wetland and a tour of a UPS facility. It begins Thursday, October 23, and will host 56 events over ten days.

Yellow Duckling on the roof of Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose.

The sculpture on the roof keeps on changing. While the current (May 2011) street view shows this yellow duckling, earlier imagery of Feb 2011 showed a White Rabbit (probably of Alice in Wonderland fame) and even an earlier Street view imagery of 2008 showed a Pink Dog. The current 45 Degree aerial view of Google Maps shows a monkey (probably Curious George). (http://goo.gl/OA01AT)
