This museum is so fun! We took our 1 1/2 year old here and he had a blast. There was so much for him to explore. The water play area and the play kitchen area were fun. The upstairs early education area was his favorite and perfect for ages 5 and under I'd say. So many activities to engage all the senses. We ate lunch at the cafe and it was overpriced and just ok tasting. But im glad we had the option since we didn't bring a lunch. Our son was too excited by all the activities around us to eat so next time we'll eat outside or before we arrive. Bring extra clothes and socks - he got soaked I'm the water play, even with the aprons.

They have lots of exhibits for kids of all ages up to around 10. There are also rotating exhibits which are usually well curated and fun. Even when it's busy, it's not overwhelming. We can spend hours there and the kids always have a blast.

My daughter and I had such a wonderful time here. She is 15 months and had a great time at the upstairs area designed for little children. They make a very safe environment and I felt safe letting her run around.

Our kids aged 3 and 6 love the Children's Discovery Museum. It feels like a really safe environment for them to run about in and even though they know it really well, they never get tired of it. I also think the food at the cafe is well above average with a good selection of healthy options for kids. Our kids love the diy facepainting, the bubbles, the ball/waterway area, the craft, the imaginary play (kitchen, store, fire engine, ambulance) and the mammoth section. Parking is easy at the flat rate parking lot across from the museum for $5 a day.

Great activity/discovery/science museum for kids. Bring dry clothes as the water play area is great fun and will soak your little ones! Long queue and few free tables in rush hour at the museum café. No wi-fi, no parking. Park along Woz way ($2/hr, meter) or at the $5 all day parking place up the road (follow signs outside the museum)

Great children's science museum with purely hands-on exhibits and great experiences. Always packed. Yearly membership a no-brainer. Parking nearby across the street is $5.

Awesome place for kids of all ages. Even young ones (as long as they walk) will have plenty to do. Two things: food options are limited and very expensive, and it's crazy packed passed 11:30am. Come early (10am) and do the less packed things at the end.

We went here with my 1 year simply because we were ducking the heat. However I was pleasantly surprised at all the activities and offerings. It has an indoor water area for the kids to play. My son loved it!

A reminder that Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose will be closed for sprucing up from September 26th through October 7th. Please note that our website, phones, and other communication systems will be down intermittently during the first week. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Bay Area Science Festival Kicks Off This Thursday, October 23

"When you hear about the +Bay Area Science Festival+Kishore Hari, the festival’s director, doesn’t want you to think of the dry school science fairs of your youth.

“I always tell people to think festival, not fair,” he says. Forget the potato battery, the baking soda volcano and the boring poster boards. “It’s the picture of you laughing, experiencing emotions, learning something. It’s a true celebration.”

There are 56 events in ten days, beginning Thursday."
The Bay Area Science Festival features events like a bike ride through wetland and a tour of a UPS facility. It begins Thursday, October 23, and will host 56 events over ten days.

Yellow Duckling on the roof of Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose.

The sculpture on the roof keeps on changing. While the current (May 2011) street view shows this yellow duckling, earlier imagery of Feb 2011 showed a White Rabbit (probably of Alice in Wonderland fame) and even an earlier Street view imagery of 2008 showed a Pink Dog. The current 45 Degree aerial view of Google Maps shows a monkey (probably Curious George). (
