Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose’s (CDM) striking 52,000 sq.ft. purple building signals its purpose to serve the needs of children, families and schools as a center for learning and discovery. Our theme is Connections; the context is Community — the myriad relationships within and between the man-made and natural worlds and the way those relationships are expressed here in our own backyard. Our 150+ interactive exhibits invite self-directed, open-ended explorations, while educational programs provide facilitated, focused, and sustained interactions. Since opening in June, 1990, CDM has welcomed over 7 million visitors.

My son loves this place. The fire truck and the ambulance are big hits. The temporary exhibits have been great thus far. We bought an annual membership so we can go as often as we like. The staff at the cafeteria are very friendly.

We are still looking for (and grateful to) folks who have a second to click the "vote" button under the Museum's video. The contest prizes would boost our bottom line, and help us better achieve our mission of inspiring lifelong learning in children. Thanks again!

Thanks to Mary Mactavish for originally posting the link.

from my email, please help out one of our favorite places (very very easy click, no registration required, feel free to share)
-----------
+Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose   has entered a video contest, and we REALLY need your help! ADP, our payroll company, is sponsoring a video contest for small business clients (less than 250 employees) to say why they like working with ADP as their payroll company. Our video is now up on the ADP gallery (link below) for voting.
Watch our video and vote at: http://www.beyondthestartup.com/video-gallery.html
Our immediate goal is to get in to the top five most voted for: WE NEED YOU!!! You can vote once per device (home, work, smart phone, tablet,) voting ends December 15th. Share this email, and ask your family and friends to VOTE! The five videos with the most votes will then be judged by ADP executives to win one of three prizes: $100,000 of free advertising; one year of free ADP payroll services with their new software program; or one year of free ADP payroll services. WOW – this would really impact CDM in a Mammoth way!
Please help CDM by voting!
THANK YOU!!

Join us Saturday, November 1st, along with many other Bay Area Organizations, for Discovery Days at AT&T Park. This event is free.

Bay Area Science Festival Kicks Off This Thursday, October 23

"When you hear about the +Bay Area Science Festival+Kishore Hari, the festival’s director, doesn’t want you to think of the dry school science fairs of your youth.

“I always tell people to think festival, not fair,” he says. Forget the potato battery, the baking soda volcano and the boring poster boards. “It’s the picture of you laughing, experiencing emotions, learning something. It’s a true celebration.”

There are 56 events in ten days, beginning Thursday."
The Bay Area Science Festival features events like a bike ride through wetland and a tour of a UPS facility. It begins Thursday, October 23, and will host 56 events over ten days.

Nicely Done! Discovery Duck just came down temporarily, but Potter the Otter is up on the roof now, reminding you to drink water.

Thanks for sharing.

Yellow Duckling on the roof of Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose.

The sculpture on the roof keeps on changing. While the current (May 2011) street view shows this yellow duckling, earlier imagery of Feb 2011 showed a White Rabbit (probably of Alice in Wonderland fame) and even an earlier Street view imagery of 2008 showed a Pink Dog. The current 45 Degree aerial view of Google Maps shows a monkey (probably Curious George). (http://goo.gl/OA01AT)
