Weston Johnson, a former University of Wyoming linebacker and Sheridan High School assistant coach, is currently fighting for his life.

According to the Facebook page "Never Flinch," which was established to support Johnson as he battled metastatic melanoma, a form of cancer, Johnson's family was with the former UW captain Tuesday, but the prognosis for recovery didn't look good.

For a swimmer with grand ambitions — to compete in the 2016 and 2020 U.S. Olympic trials — Jensen said it took a while before he even envisioned being able to compete at the top level in college.

“I never thought of myself as a Division I swimmer till now,” he said.

Consultant calls for culture change, higher expectations for Wyoming athletics

A consulting firm cites a “culture of acceptance and validation” that has resulted in sustained mediocrity in University of Wyoming athletics, most notably football and men’s basketball.

“There is a pervading opinion that ‘good enough is good enough’ in football and basketball,” the report states. “Thus, there is not a sense of urgency and accountability that accompanies programs with high expectations for competitive success.”

A Casper College student returned to his vehicle Monday afternoon and found three loaves of unidentified bread on the passenger seat.

That wasn't the biggest surprise.

The Casper Police Department later confirmed the bread was contaminated with the drug LSD, according to Casper College Director of Public Relations Rich Fujita.

“Some people are here to find God. For some it’s just another stop on the way,” Vashon preaches. “Some people, they’re trying to make a life for themselves. That’s me.”

It's not the snow, it's the bottom falling out of the thermometer.

Despite persistent snowfalls, accumulation levels in Casper should remain relatively manageable. The cold snap that accompanied it, however, could be an issue today.

University of Wyoming Pres. Bob Sternberg resigns post after weeks of turmoil

http://bit.ly/1d2lMMQ | Bob Sternberg stepped down from his post as the University of Wyoming president Thursday, only 137 days after taking the job July 1.

“[I]t became obvious that things were not working out as I, or probably anyone else, had hoped for,” Sternberg wrote in an email to the Star-Tribune on Thursday. “I left [the conversation with Bostrom] feeling I most likely did not have full support from the board, and when you are president, you need their support.”

A Minnesota woman has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Lander-based National Outdoor Leadership School following the 2011 death of her 20-year-old son.

Thomas Levi Plotkin was backpacking through the river valleys in the Himalayas in India on Sept. 22, 2011, when he slipped and fell down a steep incline, presumably drowning in the river 300 feet below. Plotkin was an economics major at the University of Iowa and was completing a NOLS Semester in India course.
