"Wasting time" as #poet laureate of a Lark Street stoop. #Albany #writer
Like all things related to nice weather, it seems the 2014 stoop season came late to Albany. But now that it's here, sitting on the stoop is one of the great perks of living in downtown Albany and,...

What you love in this world is immense. And love is.
Despite city lights, stars can be very clear in downtown Albany's sky. Yes, they are the brightest stars, but that doesn't stop them from being magnificent. What most often catches my eye in the ni...

My Albany +Times Union blog launched today! Here's the intro post (first 'real' post set to publish later today):
If only that were true! Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all enjoy “the world according to ourselves“? Putting our personal spins on our lives is part of what attracts me, you and everybody else to ...

Did you #greenyourcommute  today, #Albany? I did:
It's Green Your Commute Day (#greenyourcommute), and I took the bus to work for the first time. Living in downtown Albany, it has always pained me to get in my car and drive out to work on Wolf Roa...

Does Albany have hashtag envy? Here's my first post for my new +Times Union  blog:
Hashtags are so mainstream now that even if you’re not on social media much, you’re exposed to them. But this is more about the sparkle of mischief in the eyes of our local cities than it is about ...

Poet. Artist. Crankypants. Social Media Nerd.
Introduction

I am a painter, mixed media artist and poet living in downtown Albany. I have roots in northern Maine, where I was born and raised in a paper mill town along the Penobscot; in West Virginia, the college “home among the hills” where I received an undergraduate degree in journalism; and Portland, Oregon, where I started craving city living and a stronger sense of myself.

My poetry is published locally and nationally and has been nominated for a pushcart prize. I read and feature at open mics throughout Upstate NY. In 2010, I was the “almost” poet laureate of Smitty’s Tavern in Voorheesville, NY, placing as first runner-up in the inaugural contest. I am pursuing my MFA in poetry through Ashland University.

My favorite artistic outlets include acrylic on canvas, collage and paper maché. Some of my work has been exhibited in Capital Region venues. A moody single mother of three boys with a full-time job in social media marketing, I use poetry and art as emotional crutches and am trained as an expressive arts facilitator through New York Expressive Arts.
