Today is World Red Cross Red Crescent Day!

To celebrate, we’re looking at the impact our fundamental principles have, 50 years after they were created.

Nihal is from occupied Golan, in the Middle East. She recently married a man living in neighbouring Syria.

Their wedding had to take place in the demilitarized zone, after the Red Cross talked to armed groups in and around the area.

Thanks to our neutrality, the wedding could go ahead. By not taking sides in any conflict we’ve won us the trust of states and armed groups around the world.

Neutrality is one of our seven fundamental principles: http://www.fundamentalprinciples.today/

Please donate to our Yemen crisis appeal: http://bit.ly/1N7PrGd

Deadly clashes and air strikes have killed hundreds of people and seriously injured many more.

People are struggling to find food and water. Medical supplies to help the wounded and sick are running low.

We can bring vital help, but we need your support.

The Red Cross is providing food, blankets and other essential items to more than 25,000 people who have fled the violence in north-eastern Nigeria and sought refuge in neighbouring Niger.

It takes more than doctors to #beatEbola.

After a year the virus is now declining, but there's no room for complacency.

It is unthinkable that dirty water kills more children than war. But it’s true.

The Clean Start Appeal will give thousands of people safe clean water. From today, donations to the appeal will be doubled by the British government.

We're looking for stories of Land Rover Defenders in action!

In 1954 Land Rover donated a Defender (then known as Series 1) to use as a mobile dispensary in Dubai, and we've been working together ever since.

More than 120 vehicles have been loaned or donated, so we can do everything from delivering emergency relief after a typhoons, to providing transport for hospital patients.

We'd love to hear any stories you have of the Defenders working with us! Please comment, or email socialmedia@redcross.org.uk.

Helping people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are.
Introduction

We are a volunteer-led humanitarian organisation that helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are.

We enable vulnerable people at home and overseas to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their own communities.
