Frankly, I'm with Google on this one: this summit is worrisome to say the least.
The U.S., Canada, and European allies are squaring off against Russia and China at a U.N. Internet summit. At stake: the future of how the Internet will be run. [Read more]

Congratulations, Google.
Since its launch alongside Android 4.1 Jelly Bean back at Google IO in the summer, Google Now has become an intriguing, and in some cases integral part of every day life. Android nerds aren't the only ones to take a shine to the service either it seems, with Popular Science naming it as the Innovation of the Year. Make no mistake, this is an impressive accolade to receive. Google Now finds itself among such distinguished company as the digital ca...

This doesn't sound good...
The world's leading search company has decided to come out swinging against an effort by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the telecommunications arm of the United Nations, to seize a larger role for itself in Internet governance. "There is a growing backlash on Internet freedom," Google says on its website. "Forty-two countries filter and censor content. In just the last two years, governments have enacted 19 new laws threatening...

This doesn't pass the smell test to me. Someone needs to dig into this story - there's more here to be found...
In a letter to Congress, the organization argues that the Internet Radio Fairness Act, a federal bill supported by Pandora and Clear Channel, would deprive artists of fair pay for their work.

A very harsh lesson (in Florida, we get this fairly regularly), but a good reminder that we can get by without all of this stuff when we have to.
With only sporadic access to text messaging and the Web, many in Hurricane Sandy's no-power zone quickly cobbled together systems for passing along information and arranging when and where to meet.
