TRI-TRACK SPRING RUSH RACE 9 -- Finale
June 28, 2015

After a grueling twelve weeks through three months, we were luckily able to run the last and final race of the TRI-TRACK SPRING RUSH. A first for the South Florida RC Community. Tri County, Mills Pond and Coral Springs teamed up and celebrated the opening of TriCounty’s new indoor carpet track. While there were challenges, we were able to get through them and complete what I hope, will be a continuously growing hobby in South Florida.

There were some spots still open and a few surprises. Round One began with Corey Record winning Stock Buggy and Daniel Chavez took Mod. Buggy by over ten seconds. Stadium Truck once again, had Bart Collins win Round 1, while Sebastian “Sea Bass” Hazbun won in 4WD Mod. Buggy. Pro 4 Mod. continued the battle between Daniel Paz and Jeff Kranz and Jeff drew frist blood. E Buggy was up next and Bart Collins’s winning ways continued…finishing his trifecta as Bart also won round won of the combined Nitro class.

In round two, Jeff Kranz found his Mojo and earned the TQ point in Stock Buggy. Mod. Buggy witnessed Corey Record move up and spoil that extra point. Then, Corey did it again in Stadium truck by 0.197 over Bart. Daniel Chavez ran his relatively new 4WD Mod. Buggy, while earning the win and point. Finally, Jeff Kranz held on and was the first Round  winner and  got his point in Pro 4 Mod. Bart Collin’s continued winning ways and got the E Buggy TQ. Bart continued to roll and and in combined Nitro, got his second consecutive TQ.

In the Semi’s, we started with 4WD Mod. Buggy’s “B” main. Sebastian Vasan and Fred Rodriquez earned their seat at the adult’s table. Denis O’Connel and Jose Mato got the Pro 4 Mod. bump-ups. While E buggy finished up setting the “A” Mains with Paul Holness and Loren Kretzschmar moving on up.

It was showtime and the last round of the TRI-TRACK SPRING RUSH. Jeff Kranz got his 101 and locked up the 1st place trophy, Corey Record was in second and third place finisher, Tom Allen was able to maintain enough points to get 2nd Place in the series. Jonathan Hutton worked some late series magic and swiped the 3rd place trophy. Stadium Truck was next, and Bart Collins once again put the stamp on his 1st Place trophy with Corey Record taking second, but third place finisher Jeff Krans locked up the 2nd place trophy. Joshua Alfaro slipped into a fifth place but the points were enough to give him 3rd place overall. Corey Record, Daniel Chavez and Richard Hazbuz took one, two and three in Mod. Buggy, but Bart Collins already earned the 1st place trophy the race before. Daniel Chavez held on to the 2nd place trophy while Loren Kretzschmar came out of nowhere to get 3rd Place and win some tin. In 4WD Mod. Sea Bass won the day with The Hammer taking two and Danile Chavez in three. When the dust settled it was The Hammer, Jonathan Hutton and The Burgermeister (Jack Espinosa) with the point count to earn the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place series finish. Pro 4 Mod. was one of the longest and toughest battles of the series and while Jeff Kranz won the day, second place finisher Daniel Paz already owned the 1st Place trophy for some time. Keep your eyes on these two next time. Jeff had to settle for 2nd in the series while Yamig Torres got third but the 3rd place series award went to The Hammer. Bart Collins won the E Buggy class, another 1st place trophy and to his growing collection. Daniel Paz took second but ended in 3rd in points. Third place Jeff Kranz didn’t qualify for awards, but Michael Mennella did and will get his 3rd place trophy. James Wicker ran so consistent, he took the day off and still earned 1st place in the series in Sportsman Nitro. Paul Holness got 2nd place while Nick Cotugno slid into 3rd. On the Pro Nitro side, Bart Collins’s amazing streak continued with yet another 1st place trophy. Michael Mennella ended up in 2nd and Mike Bellotti won 3rd.

This finish a very long and difficult series; however, it  showed the dedication and stamina off all the racers who were involved. This series was conceived to help and create stability in an amazingly lucky area having three off road tracks within twenty minutes of each other. These three facilities has shown their high level of dedication to the South Florida off road racing community.  Please support them, it will make us all only stronger. Finally, without our sponsors TriCounty Hobbies, JConcepts, Boca Bearings, Lead Finger Racing LFP, Maxy’s Fuel & Cinco BT, Gens Ace, Tekno RC, Exotek Racing, Venom, AKA, Atomik RC, Speed Demon Hobbies, Ztw Brushless Controls and Big Boss Beef.  Many of us would not have had the chance to run against each other and Mills Pond, TriCounty an Coral Springs would have never been able to pull this off. Thank you, and thank you all for your participation.

An open letter of appreciation from the Gateway RC Club
Tim Murray, President

Much needed and much deserved thank you to the Boca Bearing Company in Florida who continues to support us as they have from the very beginning last year. They provided rc-related gift certificates for those all important bearings that we all need as well as apparel for raffle prizes.

Thank you, Allen Baum and Boca Bearing Company!

So far this season I have only had one race weekend at Blackhawk Farms Raceway. Unfortunately on Saturday the race was cancelled due to weather, but on Sunday the race was on. I started the TAG senior class random p19 out of 20, and I finished 3rd out of the 20 in my class and 4th out of 20 overall. I plan to race the next race in August again at Blackhawk Farms Raceway and I hope to win. Thank you again for the support!

This past weekend was the 4TH round of the JBRL series which was held at OCRC Raceway in Huntington Beach, California. As usual, the level of competition was high with yet another challenging racing layout that resulted in some very exciting racing. The total entry count reached 255 entries.

In the 1:8 scale class TLR David Jenson took the victory with his Orion powered Team Losi Racing 8ight-E 3.0 with Pro-Line MC Electron’s and yellow seal ceramic BOCA bearings.  In the PRO 4 class David TQ but finished 2nd after a small mistake with his Orion powered Team Losi Racing TEN SCTE 2.0 equipped with Pro-line MC Electron's.

2nd Quarter Race Report

I have been participating in the North Carolina Short Course Challenge (NC SCT) Series as well as the Summer Point Series at the Warehouse R/C Complex.  In 3 of the 4 classes, I am holding on to a top 3 position; however, the point series are only at the midpoint and there is a lot of racing left.  I will have to finish strong against some very tough competition if I want to end up on the podium at the conclusion of both series.   I also participated in the 2015 Serpent Cup this quarter which was previously reported.

This quarter, I also started upgrading my vehicles with the green seal Boca Bearings. The bearings are very smooth and have guided me to 15 top five finishes and 12 podium finishes this quarter.

As always, I am grateful for the opportunity to represent and race for the following companies -- Bullit Performance R/C Hobby Shop, Pro-Line Racing, Viper R/C Solutions, Boca Bearings, ARC and Xpert Servos.

I have a very busy 3rd quarter scheduled and I am looking forward to several big races and the conclusion of the point series.

A week after the NM Enduro in Angel Fire we loaded up Sean’s Sprinter (and new 10-bike trailer) and headed north to Sun Valley, Idaho for the second round of the Enduro Cup Series.

This was Syd and Sean’s first two-day race of the year and after two stages on the first day we had racked up more than 25 miles of riding and 3500 feet of climbing. The second day’s trails were primarily lift-accessed and only included 45 minutes of total pedaling between the three stages. The 2nd and 3rd stages were long though and the fastest total race time of the day was over 27 minutes.

As part of the NAET (North America Enduro Tour) this round of the Enduro Cup had a strong pro turnout and after more than 45 total minutes of racing, Macky finished in 6th place, missing a podium appearance by 1 second and 4th place by 2 seconds. Despite missing the podium, he maintained his first place standing in the Enduro Cup Series overall.

Syd had a solid first day and went into the second day sitting comfortably in 2nd place. Unfortunately a bad mechanical on the first stage of day 2 lost her more than three minutes. She was able to salvage her race though (with the combined mechanical knowledge of the entire Pro Women’s field) and made up time on the 2nd and 3rd stages to finish in 4th place overall and move up to second place overall in the series.

Sean rode consistently throughout the weekend to finish in 16th place.

After the race we headed to the Ketchum Pump Track to race the Idaho Pump Track State Championships. All three of us raced and both Syd and Sean ended up on the podium, both finishing in 3rd place and walking away with some cash!

We’re planning to spend the next week exploring the backcountry riding here in Sun Valley and then head to Keystone, CO to prepare for the Big Mountain Enduro race July 11th-12th.

Cheers,

Macky, Syd and Sean
