Sunday April 26th, 2015 was a beautiful day in North Western PA for a scale competition.

The Keystone RC North Club hosted comp #1 of its 3rd annual summer points series held at Van Ord farm in Russell, PA. This is a 6 series competition happening once a month.

Turn out was great with 16 drivers in class 2, 8 in each of the other classes.

There was a great mix of mud, dirt, rocks, water, and hill climb challenges on every course. There were new drivers, and seasoned vets, and even some on-lookers stopped by to see what it was all about.

There was even a Crawler4Kids.org Donation Station to help benefit special needs kids that people happily donated spare parts to.

We would like to thank our sponsors for promoting this series and for helping to make it awesome.

Psycho Nitro Blast 8: Unadilla, GA
April 23-26

It took us nine hours to get to the event. Set up Kody's car all day and let him get some practice in. Not much time to practice. Qualified with the B main group on open buggy. Struggled with a good set up. I qualified in the C main. Got to the track the day of mains and noticed they smoothed the track. Overall my car was set up good, just a little frustrated. My car was set up for the bumpy track, not the smooth version.

Psycho Nitro Blast: Unadilla, GA
April 23-26

Buggy and Truggy ran great all day for qualifying. I could've qualified better in truck, but my transponder did not pick up for one of my qualifiers. I qualified 12th in truck, I blew a pinoin bearing, so I could start the race. My Dad fixed the bearing; if I was able to start the race, I could've finished third in truck.

In Buggy I started first in B main. I got hit in the back at the start of the race and the dog bone was knocked out of my buggy. Dad went back to the pits and fixed the buggy so I can finish the race. I had the fourth fastest lap time on the track.

My parents and friends have seen a lot of improvement in my racing. It was a long weekend and had a great time.

ILER RACING -- April 2015 Race Report

April 4
Mills Pond RC -- Fort Lauderdale, FL
Club Race

We showed up early at the track to be able to get some extra practice in with our E-Buggies in order to get ready for the big AMS 6.0 race the end of May. It was gorgeous outside and a great night to race under the lights.

There were a total of 9 racers in round 1 of E-Buggy. Only 3 racers were on a 10 lap pace which included David in 1st and me in 2nd.  Round 2 was made up of 10 racers with David coming in 2nd followed by me in 3rd.  The 10 minute Main was lots of fun. David was out in front of the pack for several laps, but in the end finished 3rd overall. I was in 2nd for a few laps. I had some bad luck about half way through the race and lost about 10 seconds in one lap waiting to be turn Marshalled. I tried fighting my way back through the pack, but was only able to finish 5th.

Beachline Raceway -- Cocoa Beach, FL
Club Race

We went car shopping last weekend and bought ourselves a used minivan just for our RC racing. We needed something bigger to hold all our stuff when we travel. We ended up taking our first road trip with it to Beachline Raceway in Cocoa Beach. It’s 150 miles each way, but can easily be done in a day.

The track had just been resurfaced so it was really slick. In the beginning it was like you were driving on ice. David wasn’t able to race the first qualifier with his SCT because smoke was coming out of his speed control when he turned it on. Luckily he had another one and was able to change it out before the second qualifier in which he was able to finish 2nd in the heat. It was a very close Main and David finished 2nd just missing 1st by 1.151 seconds. I had a rough few first laps with my SCT in my first qualifier. My second qualifier was a little better and I was able to pick up some speed to get in another lap. I changed my tires to Clay Rattlers for the Main and started in the 5th position. I think the Rattlers gave me more side bite especially around the S section of the track. I was able to shave off a second and have my fastest lap time for the day, but still finished 5th in the end. David had a great day with his 13.5 buggy and was able to take the TQ with a 14/5:18.260 pace. In the Main there was only one lap where he fell back to 2nd and the rest of the race he held onto 1st making it to the top of the podium. I was able to qualify 5th with my 13.5 buggy. Right off at the start of the Main I got caught up on the first corner in traffic and was taken out putting me in last place. I pushed hard and was able to gain back a couple spots before the first lap was over. Making no errors I was able to finish 4th only one position from the podium picture.

April 25
Trinity Spring Fling
Beachline Raceway -- Cocoa Beach, FL

In round 1 of 4wd 13.5 buggy David got caught in traffic and was taken out in a corner where he lost his turn buckle and couldn’t finish. Round 2 he knew it would be tough with the resort so he just needed to run some steady laps to make it into the A Main. He was able to take first in his heat to qualify 3rd overall. David sat behind 2nd place through most of the race waiting for him to make a mistake. Unfortunately, the other racer drove a good race where David could not get by. On the back straight they both raced side by side to the finish where David came in back of him taking 3rd for the day. It is always fun watching David and Teammate Anthony (Tony) Nicotra race in the 4wd SCT class together.  In the end David was able to finish in 4th in front of Tony, but I know it will be another exciting battle the next time they meet.

I wish I would have done better with my 4wd SCT. I just couldn’t seem to keep up with all the talent there today. I qualified 7th and was only able to move up one position to finish 6th. I was really excited to think I had made the A Main in 13.5 4wd buggy, but when I looked at the Main sheets they only put 6 racers in the A Main instead of the regular 8 with two bumps. Being disappointed I knew I had to make it happen in the B. I started off in the 2nd position and dropped to 3rd on the first corner. I pushed hard and was able to jump back up to 2nd and then took over 1st. It was a really close race between Terry Lach and me. I was able to take the win, but was excited that both of us got the bump spots to the A. In the final Main I moved up to the 4th position, but right before the finish line I was hit from behind. The racer stopped to wait, but when I got back on the gas my car went sideways and out of control. That is where he was able to pass me leaving me in 5th.

TRI-TRACK SPRING RUSH
April 26, 2015 -- Race 2

Race 2 of the TRI-TRACK SPRING RUSH nine race series was at TriCounty Hobbies NEW indoor carpet track. From Friday night’s warm-up race until Sunday mornings Race 2 there were plenty of both changes and surprises. The finishing touches and attention to detail showed us exactly why TriCounty Hobby Store & Raceway will be here to stay.

All of the 1/10 scale classes were represented and there was stiff competition right from the start. With 47 entries, we were able to space out the first 2 rounds of qualifiers and the racers had a lot more open space to run. 2WD Stock Buggy was tight with Tom Allen and Reuben Diaz taking TQ away from each other back and forth. By the end of the qualifying, Reuben edged out Tom by getting in an extra lap by roughly 2 seconds. Next up, 2WD Modified Buggy with Bart Collins crossing that loop and getting that extra lap to TQ over Daniel Martinez by less than a second. In 2WD Modified Stadium Truck the Father and Son team of Jeff and Corey Record took the top 2 spots with Corey handily beating out dad. Then there was the 4 WD Buggy class running hard and fast, pushing the track as hard as it has ever been. Felix Law, fresh back from China, got the TQ point by a solid lap from Gavin Butera and the rest of the field.  Finally, the BASH class of Pro 4 Modified SCT. After 3 heats, 2 rounds and more bumping than a full day at the State Fair’s bumper cars ride. The smoke cleared and Daniel Paz took TQ and the point over Big Boss Beef himself, Jeff Kranz to end the qualifiers and get us into the mains.

We stacked the field with 8 cars and 2 bumps which took this indoor carpet track to it’s limits. It was tight, it was tough, it was chaos, carnage and utter inhalation. However, in the end…there can be only one. Some days it’s harder to win and the field gets evened out by all types of surprises. Today, was that day. The only “B” main had the same leader Jared Cooper from Race 1’s (bigger track) “B” main to make the jump into the “A”. So all-in-all, after the comments and worries, it was how it should have been.

The Featured Main’s started with 2WD Stock and Jeff Kranz coming up from 3rd to take 1st while Reuben Diaz and Tom Allen dropped to 2 and three. All 3 were within 7.629 seconds from first. 2WD Modified Buggy was a free-for-all and the placements showed it. When the craziness ended Corey Record, Daniel Chavez and Daniel Martinez took the top 3 spots and ended with some space in between. 2WD Modified Stadium Track Corey maintained his perfect day and took 1st in all three heats, while Rueben Diaz finally finished a heat, and it was the one that counted for 2nd place. Keeping that third spot was Joshua Alfaro. First, Second and third…stayed 1, 2 and 3 from the qualifies to the finish of the “A” Main for 4wd Modified Buggy with Felix Law, Gavin Butera and Corey Record finishing in that very order. Then, the Grand Finally, with a crowd watching all the way down the wall. The Pro 4 Modified SCT show was about to begin. Nobody had a clue what would really happen, and then… they were off! When all was done and said, it was Daniel Paz, Jeff Kranz and Jeff record in that order, surviving and thriving by the end of Race 2. Some were happy and some were not, but that’s racing and it was awesome.

Race 3 will be at Broward County RC Speedway (Mills Pond) on May 2, 2015 at 10 am (1 pm Start). Race 4 will be back at TriCounty Hobby Shop and Raceway on May 10, 2015 Store opens at 8 am and racing starts at 10 am. A special thanks to all of our sponsors TriCounty Hobbies, JConcepts, Boca Bearings, Lead Finger Racing LFP, Maxy’s Fuel & Cinco BT, Gens Ace, Tekno RC, Exotek Racing, Venom, AKA, Atomik RC, Speed Demon Hobbies and Big Boss Beef. With out these great companies, none of these events would be possible.
