I've stated for years now that FDOT's planners, designers & engineers are just sitting around making shit up to justify their individual jobs.

Despite study after study showing miles driven declining at rapid rates and even more studies showing them not coming back. Despite study after study showing that the youth market is choosing to not participate in automobile culture via non-purchase and instead choosing a transportational lifestyle that include public transportation, bicycles, & walking. While a growing number of today's youth aren't even bothering to attain a drivers license, FDOT is still proposing idiotic and unnecessary expressway systems like the one attached.

Why can't FDOT put the funds for that unneeded project to repairing all the projects they have gotten so very wrong over the last 80 years. Examples here in Jax:

Timuquana/103rd St. where over 200 people have lost their lives in the last 5 years because of a 7 lane high speed road with crosswalks over half a mile apart separating residents from shopping and work.

Lack of bike/ped access across bridges in a city crisscrossed by waterways.

6 lanes of terror know as State & Union St. in Downtown.

The 9 lane limited access highway know as Atlantic/Beach Blvds that bisect St Nicholas.

Every state road in and around Arlington. Etc., Etc., and all around the State.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is on the lookout for adding additional highways to enhance statewide connectivity. This time, FDOT is gearing up to explore the feasibility of a Jacksonville-to-Tampa connection that would provide better accessibility to the Ocala and Gainesville ...

A water bottle refills via condensation while you ride? Yes, please. While I still have questions: Initial cost, time required to fill a bottle, weight of the unit.
Austrian designer Kristof Retezar has invented a new device for your bike that collects the moisture contained in the atmosphere, condenses it and stores it as fresh drinking water. A new self-filling water bottle has been invented that can not...

In Jax if we are lucky enough to have 3 foot bike lane installed  (which will never be swept of debris) along a road with 55mph+ traffic, our state and city officials walk around slapping each other on the back with what an outstanding job they have done.

Mean while, in the rest of world…

Well, Ladies & Gentlemen, Your voices have been heard! Take a moment and enjoy this, FDOT releases revised Fuller Warren Bridge (I-95) plans. And yes, they include a 12 foot multi-use path along the southside of the bridge.

Please let your City Council Person know that you are appreciative of all they did to push this revision through. In particular Councilman Lumb took the lead to make this happen.

One automobile collision sends a car over the side of bridge killing the driver and +FDOT is all over that. Over 200 pedestrians have been killed on Timuquana blvd/103rd st. (7 lane road with crosswalks over a half mile apart) in the last 10 years. How many times you think they thought about the safety of that road?
The Florida Department of Transportation is analyzing the safety of the Buckman Bridge following last week's accident that killed William Maddox, whose pickup was knocked off the bridge by another driver.

It's not because the guy got killed, it's because a $36,000 truck was destroyed and it's going to cost a ton of money and time to fix the bridge.

Need more proof that Florida Department of Transportation doesn't give even a single thought about your safety if you don't use a automobile as transportation?

The picture below is from the construction of 9B & US-1 (Philips Hwy) in Bayard. I and (believe or not) a few others have had to commute by bike through this construction for over 2 years now. Until the last couple of months, we were forced into sharing lanes with 55+ MPH traffic when the section pictured below was completed giving us riding through that area a safe segregated path to commute through.

Recently I've noticed a hustle of activity to prepare this section to open to traffic. I noticed markings for turn lanes & through traffic, but I don't see any markings for bicycle infrastructure. So what I'm posing below is why the FDOT doesn't use 10 foot lanes which promote traffic calming making for a safer environment for cyclist, pedestrians and workers within the construction site? It also allows for space for a 4 foot bike lane making the roadway even safer for everyone.
So why doesn't FDOT do this? Because you don't matter if you choose not to drive.

US90 from Pensacola to Milton, FL is in a similar fashion right now (and has been for 6 months at least). The bridge construction crossing Escambia Bay has eliminated the bike lanes in both directions, and even if I had the balls to ride with the 55mph cars in the twisty-windy temporary section heading to Milton, truth is, I'd be totally screwed coming back to Pensacola - the West-bound lanes have been routed to temporary metal-grate "road" OVER THE BAY itself with no room for mistakes (and the metal grating is not conducive for CARS, much less bikes). No idea when this is going to be completed.

1st attempt to move someone by bicycle. We had 6 people with trailers of some type and 3 more people with just racks, panniers or baskets.

We moved every box and piece of furniture, including the washer and dryer. All those hands made quick work of loading and unloading, while also lightening the load for everyone.

on my last move we used only bikes: normal (dutch normal) bikes, and bakfietsen of which there were 3.
