On November 23rd, approximately 30 alumni came back to Bergenfield High School to provide advice and share their college experiences with current students. Teachers signed up in advance to bring their classes to either the front cafeteria or auditorium so their students could gain some insight into the transition to college life and to learn tips for having a successful first year and beyond. Approximately 500 students took advantage of this opportunity, listening intently and participating in a Q&A session during the event. Thank you to the alumni (pictured below) who came out and made this a great day!

On Wednesday, November 9th, the district held its annual Veterans Appreciation Ceremony at Bergenfield High School. An audience of third, fourth, and fifth graders filled the bleachers of the high school gymnasium, as the powerful lesson of the afternoon focused on the many sacrifices that American servicemen and women had to endure in order to secure our nation's freedom.

School administrators, board members, and local and state legislators were on hand to give thanks to the veterans of Bergenfield. In addition, winners of a district-wide essay contest in grades 3-5 read their winning works to the entire crowd. The students spoke eloquently and with confidence while sharing their compelling words. Throughout the ceremony, the BHS Marching Band performed patriotic songs, including the "Star Spangled Banner" and "America the Beautiful." The event was capped off with a wonderful, impromptu speech by United States Senator Bob Menendez.

Congrats to the Bergenfield High School Debate Team on a successful season. Debate coach Mr. Joseph Kozay reports that this year's team has garnered the most awards in a single season than any other since the re-inception of the debate program in 2006.

On December 15th, Roy W. Brown Middle School Principal Shane Biggins shadowed an eighth grade student for the entire school day. The purpose was for Mr. Biggins to experience a typical day at RWB from a student's perspective.

The following week, Assistant Principal Dominick Rotante followed a seventh grade student for the day. The administration hopes to use their experiences to ensure that all middle school students receive the best educational experience possible.

It has been an annual tradition for BHS students, staff, families, and friends to volunteer alongside the Hospitality Ministry Team at Emmanuel Christian Church in Hackensack to serve a Thanksgiving meal to those less fortunate. This year was no exception, as this past Sunday, volunteers showed up in droves to provide donations of food, winter clothing, and blankets in addition to smiles and hospitality. Approximately 50 high school students came out to aid in the cause and helped serve over 350 meals! Thank you to all those who were able to support the cause.
