'From barons singing Bach to motet-loving MPs, the Parliament Choir brings politicians together in rare harmony'
In December 2011, I headed to Central Hall in Westminster to hear the Parliament Choir perform its Christmas concert, complete with pre-recorded readings by Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband and, in person, by Speaker John Bercow.

'No audience, just microphones, a producer & sound engineer' – Annelien Van Wauwe on overcoming her recording fears
It probably sounds rather unusual, but I have never been fond of recording music. When the red recording light came on, it created barriers. It made me control music in a way that was not mine in an attempt to try to perform as perfectly as possible.

Elgar's Cello Concerto...with a twist
The BBC Proms have released a new film showing Sol Gabetta performing an excerpt from Elgar's Cello Concerto, one of the works that will open the Proms a week today. In it, Gabetta's 300-year-old instrument becomes a screen as infrared cameras track the cello and project a film onto it.

Every summer, a strange sight appears daily from around 5pm just south of the Royal Albert Hall. It’s a cheerful, eccentric queue of people, all fanning themselves and looking bedraggled from the heat. These are the Prommers, that happy band of people who’ll brave all weathers to get a good place in the arena.
